An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a growing and ambitious housing developer based in Devon. With a strong pipeline of residential developments across the region, we are looking to appoint an experienced and commercially astute Managing Quantity Surveyor to play a key role in the continued growth of the business.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of multiple residential developments, ensuring projects are delivered profitably and efficiently from pre-construction through to final account. Managing a small team that will grow over the next 12-18 months and be involved in recruiting and developing that team whilst being hands on and overseeing your own project. Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing and overseeing the commercial function across a number of developments
- Preparation and management of budgets, forecasts and cost reporting
- Procurement and management of subcontractor packages
- Valuations, variations and final accounts
- Supporting and mentoring junior commercial staff
- Working closely with construction, technical and land teams
- Driving commercial performance and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Ensuring strong contractual and financial control across projects
About You
We are looking for someone who is commercially driven, hands-on and capable of operating within a fast-paced residential development environment. You will ideally have:
- Many years’ experience as a proven Quantity Surveyor in residential development
- Experience operating at Managing QS level or as a Senior QS ready to progress
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts and commercial management
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- A proactive and collaborative approach
- Degree qualified or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline is preferred
- Experience within both housing development and contracting environments would be highly advantageous.
