Electrical Design Engineer – Building Services

Location: Southampton

Employment Type: Full-time

Join a leading M&E engineering consultancy on the South Coast, offering a collaborative and client-focused environment with a reputation for technical excellence. You’ll work across a variety of sectors—healthcare, education, commercial, research, and industrial—on projects ranging from feasibility through to detailed design and delivery. The business places a strong emphasis on sustainability and low-energy solutions, regularly covering electrical, mechanical, and renewable technologies

🛠 What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design & coordinate electrical services: lighting, power, data, standby, and containment
  • Create load schedules, cable calculations, single-line diagrams, and technical spec packages
  • Use AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, and electrical design tools to deliver high-quality documentation
  • Collaborate in integrated project teams—from feasibility to completion—on diverse sector projects
  • Support tender and fee planning, commercial oversight, and client liaison
  • Participate in site visits, fault analysis, and technical problem-solving
  • Champion sustainable design, promoting low-carbon and renewable energy integration

✅ About You

  • HND/BEng/MEng in Electrical or Building Services Engineering
  • 2–5 years’ experience in electrical building services consultancy
  • Competent with BS 7671, CIBSE standards, and current UK regulations
  • Skilled in Amtech/Dialux, AutoCAD; Revit/BIM experience is a strong plus
  • Structured communicator who can self-manage deliverables and timelines
  • Proactive problem-solver, comfortable leading technical tasks and delivering client-ready solutions
  • Membership in CIBSE or working towards chartership will be well-regarded
