Design Manager – Exeter
A leading, locally based contractor, operating within public and private sectors constructing some of the region’s most recognised projects are looking to strengthen their team with the appointment of an experienced Design Manager!
This contractor offers a complete package of construction-related services of design and build, refurbishment and associated fit-out works with clients including Government, Local Authorities, Healthcare and Education.
As the Design Manager, this role is hands on and will wear many different hats! You will liaise with site teams, senior management, consultants and architects to effectively manage the design process.
You should have a solid work history reflecting your achievements in a similar role incorporating experience on a range of general contracting schemes and a sound understanding of detailed design. You will have the ability to assimilate complex technical issues and understand the design, procurement and construction process as well as a good eye for detail and the confidence to challenge information to improve detailing and buildability.
Responsibilities:
Review the Project Information including the employer’s requirements, contractor’s proposals and design team appointments
Manage the submission and timely approval of all reviewable design data to ensure the design programme is achieved
Assist in the commercial and technical review of specialist subcontract tender returns, establish interfaces and review alternative design
Prepare technical submissions for alternative designs, system, component, product and or material proposals for client approval
Ensuring design information is of the right quality and keeps pace with project timescales
Progress the approval of all specified design certificates including, CDM, BREEAM, Secure by Design
Requirements:
Computer literate MS Office, SharePoint
HNC / Degree Construction related
JCT/NEC/Design & Build
Experience of sustainability in design
Relevant driving licence
