This is a senior-level appointment within a building services design environment, operating at Senior or Principal Engineer level depending on experience. The role focuses on leading the delivery of mechanical building services design across a diverse project portfolio, with a strong emphasis on low-carbon, energy-efficient and regulation-compliant solutions.
You will take ownership of complex design work from early concept through to construction, providing technical leadership to project teams and supporting clients in achieving net zero and decarbonisation targets.
- Lead and deliver mechanical building services design across commercial, industrial, healthcare, residential, retail, care and mixed-use developments.
- Take responsibility for design delivery from concept through detailed design to construction stages across RIBA work stages.
- Produce and oversee coordinated design outputs including drawings, specifications, schedules and technical reports using CAD/BIM workflows and internal design resources.
- Undertake and review mechanical engineering calculations and system analysis to ensure safe, compliant, efficient and cost-effective designs.
- Lead integration of low and zero carbon technologies and energy-efficient strategies into building services solutions.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, architects, contractors and wider design teams, presenting design solutions and resolving complex technical issues.
- Provide technical leadership and design oversight within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Manage your own workload and support wider team delivery across multiple concurrent projects.
- Maintain strong awareness of UK Building Regulations, British Standards, CIBSE guidance and wider industry best practice.
Requirements:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Significant experience in mechanical building services design within a consultancy or design-led environment.
- Strong technical understanding of HVAC systems including heating, cooling, ventilation and associated plant systems.
- Proven experience delivering projects through multiple design stages and across varied building sectors.
- Competent use of mechanical design, calculation and modelling software.
- Experience working within BIM/CAD coordinated design environments.
- Experience with building performance / thermal modelling tools.
- Strong leadership, organisational and project delivery skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Strong commitment to sustainable design and improving building energy performance.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Interest in digital engineering tools and emerging design technologies.
