We are working exclusively with a forward-thinking, independent MEP consultancy that is delivering low-carbon and innovative building services solutions across a diverse range of sectors. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious electrical engineer to step into a senior or principal-level role within a growing consultancy where your voice will genuinely be heard and your impact felt across the business.
Our client operates across Heritage, Commercial, Residential, Healthcare, Life Sciences, Care, Defence, and Education sectors — offering you the breadth of project exposure that larger consultancies often can't match, combined with the collaborative, agile culture of a specialist firm.
As Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer, you will take technical ownership of electrical building services design across a portfolio of projects, from initial concept through to construction and handover. You'll work alongside mechanical and public health colleagues in a multidisciplinary environment, contributing to the consultancy's reputation for delivering genuinely sustainable, low-carbon outcomes for clients.
Day to day, you'll be responsible for:
- Leading electrical design packages, managing project deliverables, and mentoring junior members of the team.
- Producing and reviewing specifications, drawings, and calculations for LV distribution, lighting (internal and external), small power, data and communications, fire alarm, and security systems.
- Carrying out and overseeing electrical services condition surveys and producing detailed technical reports.
- Working collaboratively with mechanical, public health, and sustainability colleagues on integrated MEP solutions.
- Managing project programmes, budgets, and client relationships, acting as a key point of contact.
- Contributing to the consultancy's sustainability agenda, including integration of renewables and low-carbon electrical systems.
Requirements:
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
- Solid experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy environment, ideally 6+ years for Senior and 10+ years for Principal.
- Strong working knowledge of LV distribution systems, lighting design, power systems, and associated standards (BS 7671, IET Wiring Regulations).
- Experience with Dialux, Relux, or similar lighting design software is advantageous.
- Experience working across a variety of sectors — heritage, healthcare, residential, or commercial experience particularly valued.
- Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple commissions simultaneously.
This is a rare chance to join a specialist consultancy that is genuinely invested in sustainable, low-carbon building services design — not just as a marketing message, but as a core part of how they work. You'll have the autonomy to make real design decisions, the variety of working across multiple sectors, and the opportunity to grow with a business that values its people.
If you're an experienced electrical engineer looking for a step up or a fresh challenge in a collaborative, design-led environment, we'd love to hear from you.
