The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join a highly respected building services consultancy in Birmingham.

This is an excellent role for a Mechanical Engineer looking to further develop technically while progressing towards Senior Engineer level, working on a diverse portfolio of technically interesting projects across multiple sectors.

The business has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality building services design solutions and is currently involved in a broad range of projects across Education, Communal Residential, Commercial, Healthcare, Hotels and Listed Buildings. Typical project values range from £12m – £20m, with larger schemes reaching £50m – £60m+.

You will have the opportunity to work alongside an experienced team, gaining exposure across all stages of project delivery within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Produce mechanical building services designs across a range of sectors.
  • Design systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning and associated plant.
  • Support projects through various RIBA stages, from concept through to detailed design.
  • Prepare technical calculations, reports, specifications and design documentation.
  • Coordinate with internal and external design teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Attend project meetings and liaise with clients, architects, contractors and consultants.
  • Contribute to the delivery of efficient, sustainable and technically robust design solutions.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant UK regulations and industry standards.

Requirements

  • Experience working as a Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer or Building Services Engineer within a consultancy environment.
  • Experience designing HVAC and mechanical building services systems.
  • Understanding of UK building regulations and mechanical design standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Experience using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, IES VE or similar would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills and desire to progress professionally.
  • Salary up to £48,000 dependant on experience.
  • Private healthcare, with the option to add family members.
  • Death-in-service cover.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, increasing with service.
  • Hybrid working – 2 days in the office and 3 days from home.
  • Clear opportunity for career progression towards Senior Engineer level.
  • Exposure to a varied and technically interesting project portfolio.
