A growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy are looking to appoint a Principal / Associate Civil Engineer to lead and develop their expanding Civils team. The business has developed a strong reputation across infrastructure, development, and built environment projects, delivering highways, drainage, flood risk, and civil engineering solutions across residential, commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, and mixed-use sectors. With a collaborative and technically focused culture, the company operates with a medium-sized consultancy feel, offering staff strong visibility across projects, direct access to senior leadership, and genuine influence over how the business continues to grow.
Their civils team works closely alongside wider multidisciplinary design teams delivering projects ranging from smaller private developments through to larger infrastructure and regeneration schemes involving highways design, SuDS, drainage strategies, FRA work, and development infrastructure packages. Due to continued project wins and a growing workload, they are now looking to strengthen leadership within the civils function.
The role
You’ll play a key role in leading the civils function across both technical delivery and team development, managing projects from concept through to completion while supporting the continued growth of the business.
Typical responsibilities will include:
- Leading highways, drainage, and flood risk projects
- Highways alignment, junction, and access road design
- Production and review of Flood Risk Assessments (FRA)
- SuDS and foul drainage design
- Technical leadership and project coordination
- Managing and mentoring engineers and CAD technicians
- Liaison with clients, local authorities, statutory bodies, and stakeholders
- Managing project budgets, programmes, and commercial delivery
- Supporting bids, fee proposals, and business development activity
Projects are likely to include:
- Residential developments
- Commercial and mixed-use schemes
- Infrastructure and highways projects
- Drainage and flood mitigation schemes
- Development infrastructure packages
Requirements
- Strong UK consultancy experience within civil infrastructure engineering
- Significant highways, drainage, and FRA experience
- Experience delivering S38, S278, and S104-related schemes
- Strong understanding of DMRB, SuDS Manual, and UK infrastructure standards
- Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring staff
- Strong client-facing and project management capability
- Chartered Engineer status preferred or working toward chartership
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline
