A very well established (over 125 years), family run, decorative metalwork business is looking for a highly organised general manager/production & estimation manager. This is a unique opportunity for a talented operations & manufacturing manager with at least five years’ experience in management and leadership to operate as an autonomous leader of a small but highly reputable manufacturing company in West London.
The overview of the role is:
- Responsibility for managing and delivering all orders from receipt of enquiry, through production, to delivery.
Duties include:
- Receiving orders from the website and enquiries by phone and email.
- Reading architectural drawings.
- Communicating effectively and professionally with clients.
- Determining requirements in line with the standard product range.
- Pricing in-house works using simple, dedicated software.
- Obtaining quotations from subcontractors.
- Compiling quotations and delivering them promptly.
- Scheduling work in the in-house workshop.
- Placing orders with subcontractors and coordinating their deliveries with the in-house workshop.
- Seeing multiple concurrent projects of all sizes through from start to finish.
- Management of small workshop including stock control to ensure quality standards are maintained.
- Managing and motivating a small team to ensure deliveries are made on time.
- Recruiting new staff as needed.
- Management of the wider building in which the business operates.
Essential skills are:
- Strong communication skills with staff and customers.
- Good IT skills and good written/spoken English.
- At least five years’ experience of operational responsibility for production in a manufacturing environment in a management and leadership role.
- Experience of estimation and responding to tenders.
- Experienced, hands-on approach to planning, prioritisation and problem solving under pressure.
- Experience in a similar industry is highly desirable.
The company manufactures a variety of decorative grilles, and also supplies vent covers and frames. The products are high in quality, bespoke and some are unique. The clients range between joinery and fit-out companies, builders, interior designers and individuals working on projects for hotels, restaurants, developers and high-end private clients.
