A Brief Overview
Provide experienced, strategic legal advice on employment law and dispute resolution matters across EMEA, with a primary focus on the UK. The role supports the organisation by managing disputes and employment-related risk, advising on contentious issues and delivering pragmatic, commercial solutions aligned with business objectives.
What you will do
- Provide experienced, timely and high‑quality legal advice on employment law and employee relations matters, including disciplinary and grievance processes, dismissals, restructurings, redundancies, TUPE, discrimination and whistleblowing claims.
- Lead and manage disputes and litigation, including Employment Tribunal proceedings, mediations and regulatory matters, drafting and negotiating settlement agreements where needed.
- Advise senior stakeholders and HR partners on risk assessment, strategy and mitigation in contentious and sensitive employment matters, balancing legal, commercial and reputational considerations.
- Review and negotiate employment‑related documentation, including policies and procedures.
- Advise on commercial contracts with employment implications, such as services outsourcing, secondments and contingent worker agreements.
- Draft, review and negotiate dispute resolution clauses in a range of company contracts, including reinsurance treaties.
- Oversee and manage external counsel to ensure effective case strategy, cost control and quality of advice in line with internal guidelines.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and continuous improvement of employment policies, dispute resolution processes and internal training initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across Legal, HR, Compliance and the wider business on matters involving elevated legal or employee relations risk.
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales.
- 5-10 years’ post-qualification experience as an employment lawyer, gained in top-tier private practice and/or in-house.
- Experienced, senior-level knowledge of UK employment law, with the willingness to advise on EMEA employment and dispute resolution issues.
- Experience managing complex and high-risk employment relations matters and disputes.
- Experienced ability to advise in relation to restructurings, redundancies and TUPE/employee transfer issues.
- Experience advising on employment-related documentation, including policies and procedures.
- Experience advising across multiple jurisdictions in EMEA.
- Experience managing and coordinating local counsel.
- Experience advising clients in financial services or other regulated sectors, including conduct-related standards.
- Experience advising in relation to employment-related data privacy issues.
