Having successfully delivered billions of pounds worth of infrastructure projects since AMP3, the business continues to expand as part of a significant AMP8 investment programme.

Due to sustained growth and a secured pipeline of work through to 2035, they are now seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to strengthen the commercial team across major water infrastructure projects in the South East.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in managing the commercial performance of either a major project or multiple smaller schemes within a long-term water framework environment. Working closely with operational, engineering, and commercial teams, you will ensure robust financial control, effective change management, and strong contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle. This is a hybrid position with flexibility between office, site, and home working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and support a strong health, safety, and compliance culture.
  • Manage subcontract procurement including negotiation of terms, pricing, and programme requirements.
  • Administer subcontract packages including valuations, variations, and final accounts.
  • Produce and issue contractual notices in accordance with NEC forms of contract.
  • Manage Compensation Events and change control processes through CEMAR.
  • Prepare and agree monthly applications for payment with the client.
  • Produce detailed CVRs, cost reports, forecasts, and cash flow reporting.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Maintain detailed cost plans and expenditure forecasts.
  • Liaise closely with operational and engineering teams to ensure accurate site records and reporting.
  • Attend client, progress, and risk reduction meetings.
  • Support tendering and pre-construction activities including contract reviews and identifying onerous clauses.
  • Mentor and support junior commercial staff within the team.
  • Develop and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.

About You

The successful candidate will be commercially astute, proactive, and highly organised, with strong experience operating within a civil engineering or utilities environment.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, utilities, water, highways, rail, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC forms of contract.
  • Experience managing change control and Compensation Events.
  • Strong understanding of CVRs, forecasting, cost planning, and commercial reporting.
  • Experience using commercial systems such as CEMAR, Asite, or similar.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong negotiation and subcontract management experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple schemes and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • CSCS card relevant to role.

Desirable

  • Water sector or AMP framework experience.
  • Professional membership or working towards MRICS / MCIOB accreditation.
