We’re looking for an experienced Water Authorised Mechanical Engineer to join a busy healthcare environment in West London. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong water professional with supervisory experience and a solid understanding of healthcare water safety regulations.

The role will provide technical assurance and compliance oversight across water safety management arrangements, ensuring water systems, maintenance activities and monitoring regimes are delivered safely, effectively and in line with relevant HTM regulations.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Undertaking the duties of an Authorised Person (Water) in accordance with HTM 04-01
  • Ensuring compliance with Water Safety Plans and associated procedures
  • Providing technical advice and guidance on water safety and hygiene requirements
  • Ensuring water systems are operated and maintained in accordance with statutory and healthcare requirements
  • Identifying, assessing and escalating water-related risks
  • Monitoring and verifying statutory and mandatory water hygiene maintenance activities
  • Ensuring inspections, monitoring and maintenance tasks are completed within required frequencies
  • Supervising specialist water hygiene contractors and delivery teams
  • Appointing, assessing and supporting Competent Persons (CPs)
  • Providing technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to CPs
  • Verifying temperature monitoring, flushing, cleaning, disinfection, sampling and inspection activities
  • Investigating water-related non-conformances, failures and incidents
  • Carrying out root cause analysis and implementing appropriate corrective actions
  • Tracking remedial actions through to completion and escalating significant compliance issues
  • Supporting responses to microbiological failures, positive samples and system performance concerns
  • Maintaining accurate compliance documentation and digital records
  • Supporting audits, inspections and Authorising Engineer reviews
  • Developing effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders

What we’re looking for:

  • Recognised Authorised Person (Water) qualification or relevant training
  • Strong water hygiene and water treatment experience
  • Previous supervisory experience within a water, engineering or facilities environment
  • Detailed knowledge of HTM 04-01, ACOP L8 and HSG274
  • Experience working within healthcare, water hygiene, water safety or estates compliance environments
  • Experience investigating non-conformances and implementing corrective actions
  • Understanding of water safety management systems and compliance requirements
  • Experience maintaining accurate compliance records and using digital management systems
  • Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills
  • HNC/HND, NVQ Level 4/5 or equivalent technical qualification in Engineering, Building Services, Water Hygiene or an Estates-related discipline

Desirable:

  • Experience managing or supervising specialist water hygiene contractors
  • Experience working within a healthcare or other highly regulated environment
  • Experience supporting Water Safety Groups and Authorising Engineer reviews
  • Strong understanding of Legionella control and water hygiene management
