We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to join a high-profile Life Sciences contract in Darlington. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to work within a technically demanding and highly regulated environment where reliability, compliance and operational performance are critical.

The successful candidate will join an established engineering team responsible for delivering planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across a modern, business-critical facility supporting advanced scientific and research operations.

The Role

As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant operation of electrical and building services systems across the site. You will work closely with colleagues, subcontractors and client stakeholders to maintain essential infrastructure and ensure high standards of service delivery at all times. This role is ideal for a proactive engineer with strong fault-finding skills, a solid electrical background, and experience working in commercial, healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, data centre or other critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on electrical and building services systems.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of electrical plant, systems and associated equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records and manage tasks through the CAFM system.
  • Support statutory compliance and ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety legislation.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs to electrical systems and equipment.
  • Supervise and coordinate specialist subcontractors when required.
  • Complete risk assessments and method statements in line with site procedures.
  • Assist with quotations for minor works and remedial repairs.
  • Support delivery of contractual KPIs and service level agreements.
  • Participate in site audits, toolbox talks and continuous improvement activities.
  • Build strong working relationships with client representatives and site stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in an Electrical Engineering discipline.
  • Experience working within facilities management, commercial buildings, life sciences, healthcare, manufacturing, data centres or other critical environments.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, installation, maintenance and fault diagnosis.
  • Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance tasks.
  • Good understanding of health and safety legislation and statutory compliance.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.

Desirable

  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
  • City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing).
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
  • Experience using CAFM systems.
  • Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Exposure to UPS systems, generators, HVAC interfaces, lighting control systems and critical infrastructure.
