We are recruiting for an experienced Multi Skilled Shift Supervisor to join a professional Facilities Management engineering team supporting a prestigious and technically complex building in London.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional with strong supervisory experience who is looking to take responsibility for a team of engineers within a critical environment.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Lead, supervise and support a team of day engineers and shift engineers.
- Ensure team performance meets agreed service standards, KPIs and operational requirements.
- Ensure all engineering equipment, plant, systems and services are maintained and operating safely and efficiently.
- Oversee planned preventative maintenance activities and ensure works are completed within scheduled dates.
- Monitor planned maintenance schedules and ensure outstanding tasks are appropriately managed and closed.
- Prioritise statutory and mandatory maintenance activities in accordance with required compliance deadlines.
- Ensure reactive maintenance tasks are appropriately prioritised and completed within agreed response and resolution times.
- Support engineers with fault diagnosis, technical issues and maintenance-related problems where required.
- Provide technical guidance and practical support to engineering team members.
- Ensure engineering activities are carried out with minimum disruption to building operations and occupants.
- Maintain high standards of Health & Safety, compliance and safe working practices across all engineering activities.
- Ensure engineers follow relevant risk assessments, RAMS, permits, safe systems of work and site procedures.
- Support the safe operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical building services within areas of competence.
- Support HV/LV engineering activities where appropriately qualified, authorised and experienced.
- Ensure appropriate procedures are followed for electrical isolations, switching and safe systems of work where applicable.
- Monitor maintenance activities to ensure they are completed to the required technical and quality standards.
- Accurately record maintenance activities, faults, repairs and completion information using relevant IT and maintenance systems.
- Ensure all engineering records, reports, documentation and compliance information are completed accurately and on time.
- Monitor outstanding jobs, defects and maintenance issues and ensure appropriate action is taken.
- Identify recurring faults, operational issues and opportunities to improve equipment reliability and maintenance performance.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve engineering standards, reliability and service delivery.
- Liaise professionally with colleagues, building representatives, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Allocate and coordinate engineering tasks across the shift team according to priority, competency and operational requirements.
- Ensure allocated tasks are completed within agreed timescales.
- Work effectively within a rotating shift pattern covering days and nights.
- Participate in an on-call/call-out rota as required.
- Respond appropriately to urgent engineering issues and operational emergencies.
- Support contractors and specialist engineering teams when required.
- Encourage and support the development of engineering team members through coaching, guidance and knowledge sharing.
- Use initiative when resolving operational and maintenance issues and elevate matters appropriately when required.
- Maintain accurate shift handovers, logs and operational records.
- Monitor plant and equipment condition and report potential failures, defects or operational risks.
- Undertake other reasonable engineering and supervisory duties relevant to the role and level of responsibility.
Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Shift Supervisor, Engineering Supervisor, Shift Engineer, Senior Engineer or similar within a Facilities Management or engineering environment.
- Previous experience working within a critical environment is highly desirable.
- Experience working within a complex building, critical facility, Data Centre, commercial property or similar technically demanding environment.
- City & Guilds 2360 Parts 1 & 2 qualification or equivalent.
- HVAP qualification with relevant high-voltage experience.
- 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations β desirable.
- IOSH Managing Safely certification.
- Equivalent mechanical qualifications will also be considered where supported by appropriate technical and supervisory experience.
- Strong practical experience across engineering maintenance and building services.
- Experience carrying out electrical installation, repair and maintenance activities.
- Strong fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proven experience carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
- Good understanding of statutory, mandatory and planned maintenance requirements.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements within an engineering and maintenance environment.
- Good understanding of RAMS, risk assessments, permits and safe systems of work.
- Ability to use IT systems and maintenance reporting tools accurately.
- Experience monitoring maintenance performance, KPIs and compliance requirements.
- Previous experience supervising or leading engineering teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and team-working skills.
- Proactive approach to fault finding, problem solving and operational improvement.
- Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions within the scope of the role.
- Flexible approach to working patterns, operational requirements and engineering priorities.
- Willingness and ability to work a rotating 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off shift pattern.
- Willingness to participate in a call-out rota.
- UK citizenship required.
- Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain DV security clearance.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience within a critical environment.
- Previous experience working within a Data Centre or similar mission-critical facility.
- Strong HV and LV electrical systems experience.
- Previous HV Authorised Person / HVAP experience.
- Experience undertaking electrical isolations and safe switching procedures.
- 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations qualification.
- IOSH Managing Safely certification.
- Multi-skilled mechanical and electrical building services experience.
- Experience working within large, complex commercial buildings or estates.
- Experience managing engineering KPIs and maintenance performance.
- Experience using CAFM or computerised maintenance management systems.
- Experience working within highly regulated environments with stringent compliance requirements.
- Previous experience supervising engineers or technical maintenance teams.
- Additional electrical, mechanical, engineering or building services qualifications.
