We’re working with an established specialist manufacturer within the roofing and building envelope sector who are looking to strengthen their London specification team with the appointment of an Architectural Specification Manager. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with an architectural, design, technical construction or specification background who has the personality and commercial ambition to develop into a successful specification sales professional. Importantly, you do not need to be an experienced roofing salesperson. Full technical training will be provided, making this particularly attractive to someone looking to take their construction knowledge into a more commercially focused role with significant earning potential. Architectural Specification Manager – Roofing Systems London – Home Based / Field Based £40,000 – £45,000 + Company Car / Allowance + Bonus OTE circa £75,000 Year One | £85,000 Year Two About the Company Our client is an established manufacturer and supplier of high-performance roofing and waterproofing systems, supporting projects across both new build and refurbishment markets. The business combines technically proven products with strong design, specification and project support, working closely with architects, consultants, contractors and clients throughout the construction process. You’ll join an experienced and collaborative team with the technical infrastructure and training around you to develop genuine expertise within specialist roofing systems. The Role This is a relationship-led specification role focused on developing opportunities across the London architectural and consultant community. Rather than transactional product sales, you’ll be building long-term relationships with architects, consultants and other construction professionals, understanding their project requirements and helping them identify technically appropriate roofing and waterproofing solutions. You’ll identify projects at an early stage, influence specifications and continue developing those opportunities as they progress through the construction process. For someone currently working within architecture, design or a technical construction environment, this provides an opportunity to retain the technical and relationship-led elements of your career whilst moving into a significantly more commercially rewarding position. Core Responsibilities • Build and develop relationships with architectural practices, consultants and key construction professionals across London • Identify new projects and specification opportunities across the region • Develop an understanding of customers' technical, design and performance requirements and recommend appropriate solutions • Present technical roofing and waterproofing systems clearly and confidently to architects and other professional stakeholders • Influence specifications at an early stage and develop opportunities through the wider project lifecycle • Develop and implement a structured business development plan for the London region • Build a strong network of new contacts whilst developing existing relationships • Maintain accurate project, customer and pipeline information through the company CRM system • Work closely with technical, commercial and operational colleagues to provide customers with a responsive and knowledgeable service • Monitor market activity, future projects and competitor developments across the region • Attend relevant industry events, exhibitions and networking opportunities • Undertake structured product and systems training to develop strong technical knowledge of roofing and waterproofing solutions The Ideal Candidate We’re deliberately keeping the candidate profile broader than traditional roofing sales. You could already be working within specification sales, but equally, you may be an architectural or technically focused construction professional who enjoys dealing with people and feels ready to develop the commercial side of your career. Relevant backgrounds could include: • Architectural Technologist / Technician • Roofing, Façade or Building Envelope Designer • Design Coordinator • Technical Adviser / Specification Adviser • Architectural Representative • Construction Product Sales • Junior Specification Sales • Other technically focused Building Envelope positions What matters is your ability to understand technical information, communicate confidently with professional stakeholders and build credible long-term relationships. You should be able to demonstrate: • Experience within architecture, construction design, building products or technical sales • Strong communication and presentation skills • Confidence engaging with architects, consultants and senior decision-makers • A proactive, commercially curious approach to developing opportunities • The ability to manage your own territory, diary and customer relationships • Strong organisation and follow-up skills • A genuine desire to learn and develop within specification sales • Full UK driving licence Previous experience within roofing, waterproofing, façades or the wider building envelope would be advantageous, but it is not essential. Why This Role Stands Out This is an opportunity to build a specialist career within specification sales without needing to arrive with years of roofing sales experience or an established customer network. You’ll receive structured technical and product training alongside the support of an experienced team, allowing you to concentrate on what you already do well – understanding projects, communicating with people and developing relationships. For someone coming from an architectural or technical background, it offers a genuine alternative career path without moving away from the construction industry or the design community. There is also significant financial progression attached to the role, with a £40,000–£45,000 basic salary and realistic earnings of approximately £75,000 in year one, increasing towards £85,000 in year two as you establish yourself within the territory.
