This is not the sort of role where you just sit back and process orders. You will be right in the thick of it, working with site teams, commercial, pre-con, suppliers – making sure materials arrive when they should, at the right price without hassle.
The Senior Buyer will need to have experience operating across infrastructure, RC Frames and groundworks – aggregates, drainage, concrete and reinforcements are not something you can blag. You will need to know your way around.
The Senior Buyer will be:
- Sourcing and procuring materials across multiple live projects
- Managing supplier relationships (and not just when things go t*ts up)
- Negotiating - not just knocking a few quid off and calling it a win
- Keeping everything moving through COINS (or similar systems)
- Making sure sites get what they need, when they need it
It’s a role for someone who’s organised, commercial, and can hold their own with both suppliers and site teams. Not someone who needs chasing.
What really matters:
- Solid experience buying within civils / RC frames / groundworks
- Strong material knowledge - you know what things are and where to get them
- Comfortable working at pace without things slipping
- COINS experience would be ideal (not essential)
- Someone who takes a bit of pride in doing the job properly
There’s a load of good people here, a strong pipeline of work, and a team that actually values the buying function and relies on it to perform. If you’re doing this job already and feel like you’re going through the motions a bit… this might be worth a look. Apply now or contact Ricki for more.
