What is a Quality Assurance Degree Apprentice?
Based at our Llantrisant site, the Quality Assurance Apprenticeship provides the Global Operations Division with talent to meet the current and future demand of the division. You will contribute in many ways to support the division; this includes using a range of tools and techniques to improve quality of products, services and business performance. You will be working alongside experienced personnel to contribute to the Quality team, working with real activities from day one. Your degree apprenticeship will lead you to achieving a BSc in Engineering Management.
Description of Degree Apprenticeship Program:
- Year 1: You will attend the University of Wales Trinity Saint David one or two days per week on a day release basis where you will learn engineering management knowledge in a range of subjects. During this first year you will be working at a Level 4 level. You will work alongside Quality Technicians and Engineers. You will support process and quality audits.
- Years 2 onwards: You will continue to attend college on a day release basis for one or two days per week, working at Levels 4, 5 and 6. Your final year will include a project. You will also work with members of the manufacturing engineering team to investigate improvements following field failures and Voice of the customer reports. You will evaluate failure trends and capability data to support in delivering improvement projects. You will have an active role in the delivery of New Product Introductions. You will take part in Continuous Improvement activities suggesting and delivering improvements in a structured project-based approach.
General requirements:
- Good communication skills, enabling successful interaction with team leaders, fellow engineers, Quality Assurance personnel and management.
- Self-motivated with a drive to keep on top of all University work alongside busy day to day activities.
- A pro-active approach to problem identification and resolution.
- Willing to work within structured development program and take responsibility for personal development.
- Able to critically look at performance and engineering practices to define and improve departmental procedures.
Travel: Travel to University of Wales Trinity Saint David (Swansea campus) on day release. Both domestic and international travel is required in this role on an occasional basis.
Qualifications:
- GCSE grades minimum grade C, including Maths, English, Science and other relevant subjects such as Engineering or Product Design.
- A levels BCC (to include Maths and a Science).
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in software packages including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and passion for learning with a practical mindset.
- Good organizational skills.
