The primary responsibility of this position is partnering with our instruments operations leaders and providing strategic sourcing expertise to our global procurement teams. This role will focus on developing strategic alliances with existing suppliers, identifying new suppliers, driving supplier performance and cultivating redundancy and resiliency across our instrument supply chain. The Director position is a lead member of the instruments operations staff and represents a senior-level sourcing partner with a primary focus on materials for life science and diagnostic instruments, responsible for ~$150M in spend. The successful candidate will possess and demonstrate a deep understanding of biological, immunological and recombinant materials as well as global vendors and their capabilities.
The role is part of the Global Operations Leadership team and key contributor in the transformation of the organization towards world-class safeguarding of a market-leading performance position at competitive costs for respective material fields, derived from business requirements and overarching SCM Strategy – to generate an optimized contribution to business performance.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Strong Negotiation skills. Dynamic ability to lead complex, multi-faceted pricing and contract negotiations focus on price productivity, cash flow terms optimization, inventory management, supply assurance, quality, and delivery.
- Sourcing and Procurement Process. Develop, implement, and execute procurement strategy, process, and policies.
- Cost Savings. Ability to identify Total Cost of Ownership opportunities and execute negotiations, projects, and sourcing activities to deliver continuous cost savings.
- Supply Assurance. Responsible for supply chain resilience of instruments for revenue protection.
- Identifying Key Suppliers. Reviewing and analyzing current suppliers and identifying and making recommendations based on technology.
- Risk Management. Defining concepts for risk and contract management and driving activities which include risk reduction, implementation of alternative sources.
- Supplier Management. Organising regular business reviews to continuously rate the suppliers on defined KPI’s (supply chain performance, quality, cost competitiveness and technology road map) to monitor suppliers’ operations and to define measures to develop the suppliers.
- New Product Introduction. Partnering with R&D and manufacturing to support projects from pilot development through full-scale manufacturing in both regulated and non-regulated production facilities.
- Data Analysis. Compiles spend data by site, supplier and technology and recommends ways to maximize or optimize spend.
- Technical Acumen. Maintaining a deep understanding of fluidics commodity and the validation plans to evaluation alternative vendors and materials.
- Safety and Regulations. Developing and maintaining processes and methods that comply with all safety, ISO/regulatory, and company requirements/guidelines, in support of local, state and federal safety standards.
- Strategically managing and optimizing the supply network (pooled direct).
- Implementing material field specific benchmarking and best practice sharing with the continental/regional organizations, with external partner companies as well as with competitors to further improve procurement within the material field.
- Selecting, managing, assessing, developing and coaching employees in the area of responsibility to ensure long-term corporate success with motivated staff. Defining and monitoring targets and KPIs for the respective commodity business field. Responsible for cost reduction metrics and performance against those metrics.
- Acting as the direct partner link to the management of the business units/corporate functions. Ensuring active regular communication and information exchange with all interested parties.

Basic Qualifications:
- At least 10 years of experience in Life Sciences and Diagnostics in various functions and several areas of SCM, Procurement or Strategy, including cross-functional exposure gained within other functional areas.
- Proven track-record in leading a strategic procurement function in a global environment. Indirect spend experience preferred.
- At least 5 years of functional and disciplinary leadership responsibility.
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
- This position will collaborate with stakeholders globally and may be required to support projects/priorities/meetings during non-standard working hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated general management ability to lead a global organization.
- International business exposure mandatory, international work experience desirable.
- Proven track record in creating and enhancing effective commodity teams to drive strategic initiatives.
- Experience in cost value engineering, supplier innovation management and corporate sourcing risk management programs.
- Ability to multi-task, respond to tight deadlines and provide quick turn-around times.
- Commodity experience and demonstrated success driving cost reduction through global supply chain.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain / Operations Management or equivalent experience required, with master’s degree preferred.
- Exceptional communicator of information, opinions, observations and conclusions to drive actions.
- Demonstrates initiative and resourcefulness; self-managed and self-motivated.
- Ability to make decisions under pressure and against tight deadlines.
- Ability to manage priorities and stay on top of critical responsibilities.
