We are looking for a confident and adaptable Tutor to support students with Maths and English within a supportive Alternative Provision setting. You will be working with a small group (maximum 12 students), all with SEN and SEMH needs, in an environment focused on engagement, structure, and personal development. While the ability to deliver GCSE Maths and English is important, most students are working at Functional Skills / Level 2. The focus is on building confidence, developing core skills, and re-engaging students with education. Students typically complete around 2 hours of structured learning per day, with the remainder of the timetable being flexible. This may include:

  • PSHE and personal development
  • Sports and enrichment activities
  • Life skills such as cooking
  • Relationship-building and mentoring

You will have the autonomy to structure the day and create a positive, engaging environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Maths and English sessions tailored to student ability (primarily Functional Skills / Level 2)
  • Adapt learning to meet SEN and SEMH needs
  • Build positive and consistent relationships with students
  • Manage behaviour in a calm and supportive manner
  • Support student wellbeing and safeguarding
  • Complete daily logs and registration using CPOMS
  • Plan and structure engaging daily activities

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with SEN and/or SEMH
  • Ability to deliver Maths and English (GCSE knowledge beneficial)
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • A patient, caring, and flexible approach
  • Ability to take initiative and structure your own day

No QTS is required. This role would suit tutors, instructors, or unqualified teachers with relevant experience.

What’s On Offer

  • Small class sizes (maximum 12 students)
  • Shorter working day
  • High level of autonomy in how you deliver the day
  • Supportive and well-structured setting
  • Clear route to a permanent contract after 12 weeks
