The Planning and Inventory Control Manager is responsible for the following materials areas within assigned business unit: demand planning, product life cycle planning, production scheduling, inventory management, freight and logistics, and warehouse efficiency. In addition, the role is responsible for managing metrics to the agreed-upon scorecard. The Planning and Inventory Control Manager works closely with sales administration, engineering, purchasing, and manufacturing management to ensure an effective flow of materials to meet shipment schedules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee capacity planning while utilizing appropriate tools and analysis to ensure smooth production output for plant resources.
- Drive expectations and accountability for business unit materials teams through performance goals.
- Ability to successfully work across the organization, while influencing change regardless of direct reporting relationship.
- Provide leadership and partner with key stakeholders across the business unit to drive process improvement and meet business objectives.
- Develop a culture of continuous improvement, professional growth, cross-functional/cross-divisional collaboration, and goal planning and execution.
- Develop and communicate plans which ensure entity resources are optimized, service levels are not sacrificed, and adequate inventory exists to support the organization.
- Support team by removing obstacles and implementing practices that ensure customers receive products in a timely manner using cost-efficient processes (workforce planning, inventory management, and systems utilization).
- Design, implement, administer, and monitor materials policies, programs, processes, and systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- APICS Certified, with demonstrated application of the APICS Body of Knowledge within past work experience.
- Systems knowledge – design/selection/implementation (Materials – MRP, Inventory Optimization; S&OP / Demand Planning; Purchasing; Inventory Tracking – Voice, bar codes, RFID, etc.).
- LEAN Training with practical application and leadership experience.
- Multi-plant Management is preferred, where the focus is given on managing client/provider relationships between vertically integrated plants; JIT in a demand-driven / continuous flow environment.
- Materials management experience in an environment including customized manufacturing, multi-level Bill of Material.
- Knowledge of MS Office applications as needed to satisfactorily perform work assignments – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint as well as the ability to learn company enterprise systems as needed.
- Must be organized, able to prioritize, set and keep deadlines, change direction quickly, and adapt to various work environments easily.
- Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written, including following instructions.
- Must be able to work effectively in group settings through collaborative, solutions-oriented, and win-win approaches.
- Develop presentations to be delivered to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Apply advanced mathematical concepts like quadratic equations and basic logic functions such as if-then-else statements.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Education and/or Experience:
- 5 – 8 years’ experience with materials, purchasing, supply chain, or related functions.
- Bachelor’s degrees in Materials, Supply Chain, Business, or related field required – advanced degree is preferred.
