Retronix Semiconductor provides specialist engineering, inspection and managed services to the global semiconductor and electronics industries, from bases in Scotland, Ireland and the United States. We help many of the world's leading manufacturers protect yield, quality and uptime. We are growing, and we are investing in the systems that will carry the next stage of that growth.
The role
You will turn what the business needs into working applications, automation and Power BI reporting, and deploy them on Azure. Requirements come from managers and the leadership team; you work out the detail, build it, put it live and keep it running.
You will also look after the systems already in place, including a new billing application being built on Azure with a technology partner, which you will take over after handover.
You will work alongside a junior developer, as the senior of the two, and directly with the people who use what you build in Scotland, Ireland and the US.
What you will do
Build what the business needs
- Take a requirement from a manager or the leadership team, work out the detail with them, then build and deploy it.
- Replace manual, error-prone work with automation that runs reliably without supervision.
- Build tools that read documents, flag figures that look wrong, and forecast, where that solves a real problem.
- Use code assistants and other tools where they help, and test what they produce.
Data and reporting
- Build and maintain Power BI reports and data models for Finance, Operations and leadership.
- Connect data that currently sits in separate systems, so the business has figures it can trust.
- Take over our existing applications and integrations, including the billing application after handover, and keep them running.
- Know how our systems connect, and advise on what to keep, replace or join up.
- Build in the security and access controls our data needs, including confidential client information held under NDA.
- Document what you build so it stays maintainable.
Work with the business
- Work with managers in Scotland, Ireland and the US to understand how they work and what they need.
- Manage technology partners when we use them, and give realistic estimates of time and cost.
- Explain technical choices in plain language to people who are not technical.
What you will bring
Experience - Five or more years building and running business applications in production.
Built it yourself - At least one application you built on your own, from database to front end to hosting, that people still use. We will ask you to show us.
Power BI - Builds Power BI data models and reports, including DAX, from more than one data source.
Azure - Hands-on with Azure: for example App Service, Functions, Storage, Key Vault and Entra ID.
Support - You have taken over systems someone else built and kept them running.
Useful, and you can learn them here
- Microsoft 365: SharePoint, Teams and the Graph API.
- Integration tools such as Logic Apps or Power Automate.
- ERP, billing, HR or payroll systems.
- Working with external technology partners.
- GDPR for automated processing; ISO 9001 environments.
How we work
The person who does well here usually:
- Cares more about what changed in the business than about what they built.
- Gets moving without waiting for every detail to be nailed down.
- Wants to understand how the business works and where the problems are.
- Works well with everyone, from an operations manager in the US to the leadership team in Scotland.
What we offer
- A salary of Β£50,000 to Β£60,000, depending on experience.
- Responsibility for how our systems are designed and built on Microsoft Azure.
- Direct contact with the people who use what you build.
- A technology partner to call on for larger projects.
- Funded training and certifications, including Microsoft Azure.
Right to work
You must have the right to work in the UK.
