An established manufacturing business based in the Walsall area is looking to appoint an experienced Production Manager to lead key production operations within a busy engineering/manufacturing environment. This is a permanent opportunity with a well-established organisation offering long-term stability, training, career development and the opportunity to play a key role in driving operational performance, quality, safety and continuous improvement across the shop floor.
The Role
As Production Manager, you will be responsible for leading manufacturing activity across specific production areas, ensuring output, quality, safety and performance targets are achieved. You will manage people, processes, documentation, health and safety, quality standards and day-to-day production performance, while working closely with other departments to ensure customer expectations are consistently met.
This role would suit an experienced manufacturing, production or operations leader with a background in engineering, metal manufacturing, fabricated components, assembly, or a similar production-led environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage manufacturing operations across a multi-shift production environment.
- Plan, organise and support production schedules to ensure output targets are achieved.
- Manage, motivate and develop production teams to improve performance, quality and efficiency.
- Monitor productivity, quality standards, waste, downtime and overall manufacturing performance.
- Drive improvements across production processes, working practices and operational standards.
- Ensure health and safety procedures are followed and actively promoted across the manufacturing area.
- Work closely with planning, sales, quality, maintenance and other internal departments.
- Ensure plant, machinery and equipment are maintained to the required operating standards.
- Coach and support team members to improve productivity, quality and accountability.
- Attend management and HSE meetings, reporting on relevant KPIs and production performance.
- Ensure quality procedures are followed and all required documentation is completed accurately.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels of consumables and production-related materials.
About You
The successful candidate is likely to have:
- Proven leadership experience within a manufacturing, production or engineering environment.
- Experience managing teams within a busy factory or multi-line production setting.
- Strong people management, communication and organisational skills.
- A practical understanding of health and safety within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working to quality management systems such as ISO9001.
- Awareness of environmental standards such as ISO14001 would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement or process improvement principles.
- Strong problem-solving ability and sound decision-making skills.
- Good commercial awareness and the ability to manage performance against operational targets.
- Confidence working cross-functionally with planning, sales, quality, maintenance and senior management.
- Strong IT and reporting skills.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience as a Production Manager, Operations Manager, Factory Manager or similar.
- Experience within engineering, metal manufacturing, fabricated products, component manufacturing, assembly or similar.
- Experience managing production across multiple lines, cells or departments.
- Health and safety qualification or relevant H&S management experience.
- Experience applying quality standards within a manufacturing environment.
- Previous supervisory or management experience within an engineering-led manufacturing business.
Working Hours
Monday to Thursday: 8:00am - 5:00pm
Friday: 8:00am - 4:00pm
