An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Product Development Engineer to join a long-established British manufacturer specialising in high-quality engineered products for specialist commercial environments. The position would suit either a Graduate Engineer looking to begin a career within product design and development, or an Engineer with some existing CAD / Design experience in AutoCAD or a similar package, looking to further develop their technical and project engineering skills within a supportive environment.
You will work closely with manufacturing, suppliers, compliance teams and commercial stakeholders to develop innovative, practical and manufacturable products.
Key Responsibilities- Produce 2D and 3D CAD manufacturing drawings and technical designs & relevant documentation for new and existing products
- Develop prototypes using 3D printing and other prototyping methods
- Support products throughout the full development lifecycle
- Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings and engineering data within the ERP system
- Assist with multiple engineering and product development projects
- Support Engineering Change Note (ECN) processes
- Work and liaise closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable
- Contribute to continuous improvement and product enhancement initiatives
- Work with suppliers and specialist subcontractors where required
- Support compliance with relevant engineering and safety standards
- Assist with product testing, validation and certification activities
- Contribute to value engineering and cost reduction projects while maintaining quality standards
- Degree or relevant qualification in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering discipline
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD)
- A solid understanding of material properties
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (e.g., injection moulding, CNC machining)
- Ability to present design concepts and solutions to non-technical personnel or customers
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing for prototyping would be very beneficial
- Knowledge of ERP systems or BOM management would also be an advantage
- Possess strong problem-solving skills with a creative and innovative approach to design
- Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Ability to work effectively within a small, dynamic production team
- Strong communication abilities
