An established manufacturing organisation is seeking an accomplished Business Development Manager to support its next phase of commercial growth. The company designs and produces high-quality, tailored packaging solutions for customers operating within premium and specialist markets. This role will focus predominantly on identifying new revenue opportunities, opening doors with prospective customers and converting initial discussions into profitable, sustainable business relationships.

You will be given the autonomy to develop your market, build a high-quality sales pipeline and influence the organisation’s wider commercial strategy.

Key Duties include:

  • Research and identify potential customers within agreed target sectors
  • Generate new business through proactive prospecting, networking, referrals and market intelligence
  • Develop opportunities from initial contact through to commercial agreement
  • Build relationships with senior decision-makers, buyers and other key stakeholders
  • Gain a detailed understanding of each customer’s requirements, challenges and commercial priorities
  • Present appropriate bespoke manufacturing solutions rather than relying on an off-the-shelf sales approach
  • Prepare proposals, quotations and commercial presentations
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasts and pipeline information
  • Work alongside operational, technical and project teams to ensure customer requirements can be delivered effectively
  • Monitor relevant market developments, competitor activity and potential areas for expansion
  • Represent the business at customer meetings, exhibitions and industry events
  • Achieve agreed new-business revenue, margin and activity targets

Candidate Profile:

Applicants should have a strong background in business development or technical sales within a manufacturing-led environment. Experience from within a packaging or similar sector would be beneficial but not essential.

You will ideally demonstrate:

  • Five years’ experience within a business development, sales or commercially focused account management role
  • A proven ability to win new customers and develop business from a standing start
  • Experience selling bespoke, engineered, technical or value-added manufactured products
  • Strong commercial judgement, including an understanding of pricing, margin and customer value
  • A consultative and solutions-focused approach to sales
  • Confidence engaging with stakeholders from operational level through to senior leadership
  • Effective negotiation, presentation and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to manage a structured pipeline and maintain accurate sales forecasts
  • Experience using CRM software
  • A proactive, self-directed and results-orientated approach

The Package includes:

  • £40,000 - £45,000 annual salary
  • Car allowance
  • Hybrid working, with two days per week in the office
  • Working Hours of 8:30am–5:00pm (Monday to Friday)
  • The opportunity to shape and develop a growing commercial territory
  • A high level of independence and influence
  • Support from experienced technical and operational colleagues
  • Genuine scope for professional development and longer-term progression

This position would suit a commercially driven manufacturing sales professional who enjoys identifying opportunities, developing new relationships and delivering tailored solutions that provide measurable value to customers. Applications are welcomed from candidates who can demonstrate a consistent record of winning and developing profitable business within manufacturing, engineering or a closely related technical sector.
