This is a technically responsible role involving the concept development, detailed design and ongoing improvement of technical products and systems. The successful candidate will take ownership of complex engineering projects and work closely with manufacturing, production and testing teams to ensure designs are technically robust, compliant and suitable for manufacture.

The position would suit an accomplished Design Engineer with knowledge of product applications, pressure equipment, relevant industry standards and the transfer of engineered products from initial concept through to manufacture and testing.

The Role:

  • Lead the development of new designs while supporting modifications and improvements to existing products.
  • Produce accurate engineering calculations, drawings, design reports and technical documentation, while providing technical guidance throughout manufacturing, assembly, testing, commissioning and performance validation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the concept development and detailed design of new engineering products.
  • Develop and improve existing designs to enhance performance, reliability and manufacturability.
  • Interpret customer specifications, contractual requirements and technical documentation.
  • Produce engineering calculations and design reports covering stress, shear, torsion, bending, deflection and buckling.
  • Select appropriate materials based on process conditions, pressure, temperature, corrosion and application requirements.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant pressure equipment regulations and industry standards, including ASME, BS, and ISO etc.
  • Complete actuator sizing calculations for normal, emergency and fail-safe operating conditions.
  • Produce and maintain drawings, calculations, procedures, risk assessments and technical records.
  • Prepare manufacturing information, including material specifications, limits and fits, bills of materials and production drawings.
  • Review and verify engineering work to ensure accuracy, quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Work closely with manufacturing teams throughout machining, casting, assembly and testing.
  • Provide technical support during product testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and performance validation.
  • Support the effective introduction and transfer of new or revised designs into manufacture.
  • Develop Installation, Operation and Maintenance manuals.
  • Manage multiple technically complex design projects while maintaining quality and delivery requirements.

Skills and Experience:

  • Substantial experience in product design, operation, functionality and application.
  • Knowledge of equipment design and applicable UK regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with relevant ASME, BS, ISO and API standards.
  • Strong engineering calculation, technical reporting and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes, including machining, casting, assembly and testing.
  • Experience producing detailed drawings, bills of materials and manufacturing documentation.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software, ideally AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication, decision-making and project-management skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality and testing teams.

Qualifications:

Applicants should be degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, although equivalent qualifications combined with substantial relevant industry experience will also be considered. A minimum of five years relevant experience in a related engineering environment is required.

Package includes:

A competitive salary and benefits package will be offered, commensurate with the successful candidates experience, technical knowledge and qualifications.
