Sitting within a fast-paced reporting environment, you'll play an important role in delivering robust balance sheet control, supporting group reporting cycles and providing clear financial analysis to senior stakeholders.

Alongside core financial accounting responsibilities such as balance sheet reconciliations, P&L analysis, technical journals and revenue recognition, you'll also work closely with the systems and processes that underpin the numbers. This role will suit a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) who enjoys combining strong technical accounting fundamentals with a strong knowledge of systems, data and process improvement. You'll be comfortable working in a dynamic environment, partnering with stakeholders across finance and the wider business, and contributing to ongoing finance transformation initiatives including the future ERP landscape.

Key responsibilities

  • Ownership of balance sheet reconciliations and key P&L lines within the Retail business
  • Preparation and posting of technical accounting journals, including revenue recognition under IFRS 15
  • Supporting monthly, half-year and year-end reporting cycles within a listed group environment
  • Delivery of analytical reviews and financial performance insights to support decision-making
  • Ensuring strong financial controls, investigating variances and resolving accounting issues where they arise
  • Supporting internal and external audit requirements and responding to audit queries
  • Developing a detailed understanding of ERP and finance systems to ensure accurate financial outputs
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, reporting and controls across the finance function
  • Supporting finance transformation initiatives and systems improvements, including future ERP developments
  • Collaborating with stakeholders across Finance, Transformation and the wider Retail business

About you

  • Experience working in a fast-paced reporting environment, ideally within a large or listed organisation
  • Strong understanding of balance sheet control, reconciliations and technical accounting principles
  • Proven experience working with ERP systems (e.g. SAP) and confidence navigating financial data within system environments
  • Demonstrable experience in improving finance processes, reporting or system outputs
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial information and identify trends or issues
  • Advanced Excel capability; experience with reporting or analytics tools such as Power BI would be advantageous
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills, able to explain financial information clearly to different audiences
  • Detail-focused, proactive and curious, with a mindset geared towards continuous improvement
