About Us
The Retail Energy Code Company (RECCo) is responsible for managing and evolving the Retail Energy Code (REC), which governs the interactions of parties involved in the Great Britain retail energy market. Our mission is to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the market, promoting innovation, competition, and delivering positive outcomes for consumers. We manage a range of critical services, all aimed at driving operational efficiencies and delivering value to the industry and consumers alike. RECCo supports a broad set of stakeholders, including energy suppliers, network operators, and metering service providers, facilitating the effective delivery of their obligations under the REC. This makes RECCo a vital player in shaping the future of the energy market.
The Role
As data and digitalisation become increasingly important in the running of the energy industry, we are looking for a talented developer with ambitions to become a solution or technical architect, to complement our internal technical capability and support delivery of the RECCo digitalisation strategy. This role is ideal for someone who is technically skilled, eager to grow, and looking to develop their architectural thinking on real-world projects. You’ll play a key part in shaping the technology landscape at RECCo while receiving mentorship from senior colleagues.
What you’ll do
- Identify technical project requirements alongside colleagues and across industry.
- Work collaboratively with multiple service providers and cross-functional teams to deliver on responsibilities.
- Develop and deploy Proof-of-Concept applications and prototypes.
- Support and maintain cloud-based infrastructure environments.
- Assist in the development of frameworks, processes and tools that support a risk-based approach.
- Work alongside the Enterprise Architect to help deliver RECCo’s strategy through secure, scalable solutions.
- Identify and suggest improvements to internal processes and procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date and clear technical documentation.
- Engage with partners to assess and challenge the suitability of existing and proposed technologies.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and R&D in the digital space.
- Champion the use of technology to solve industry challenges.
About You
- Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- Solid hands-on experience in software development or systems engineering.
- Interest in architectural best practices and willingness to grow in this area.
- Practical knowledge of software or systems architecture concepts.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to communicate technical topics clearly.
- Good interpersonal and team collaboration skills.
- Experience working in agile delivery environments.
- Self-starter with a desire to learn and progress.
- Capable of simplifying complex technical matters for non-technical stakeholders.
- Resilient and persistent in navigating change in a regulated environment.
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Some knowledge of the UK energy market (desirable, not essential).
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and OAuth/OpenID Connect.
- Exposure to Docker and/or Kubernetes.
- Experience with at least one programming language such as Python, Go, or JavaScript.
- Awareness of API Gateways and microservices principles.
- Basic understanding or interest in cyber security.
- Certifications or training in architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) would be a plus.
