About you

You'll need to be qualified (ACA, CIMA or ACCA) and have experience of the month end close process, balance sheet control and financial reporting. Beyond that, we care more about how you work than exactly what you've done. Here's what sets you apart:

  • Leading self – working to and setting priorities, self-monitor performance, take responsibility for career development, developing self-awareness, embracing lifelong learning.
  • Leading others – provides clear purpose and direction; inspires trust, respect and shared values; develops and supports others.
  • Leading and managing through change – identifying opportunities and need for change and development; scope, plan and drive change; manage others through the change process.
  • Professional & Personal Development – Practice social and emotional intelligence, influencing and engaging others and demonstrate intellectual curiosity.
  • Ethics & Behaviours – creating a positive impact, respecting the people with whom you work, and acting in the best interests of your organisation, customers, clients and/or partners.

You're likely someone who:

  • Takes ownership and doesn't wait to be told what to do.
  • Spots a problem and solves it; independently, but not in isolation.
  • Can balance competing priorities without losing focus on what matters.
  • Is comfortable working in a small team where everyone pulls together.
  • Wants to keep learning and developing, not just maintain the status quo.

This role suits a qualified accountant already working at Financial Controller level, or someone ready to make that step up. You don't need experience across every area; we'll support you on systems like Acumatica and Datarails. What you do need is the technical foundation and the drive to make this role your own.

About the role

As Financial Controller, you'll sit at the heart of the business; responsible for the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting across our UK and US entities, while playing a key role in supporting commercial decision-making. You'll lead a small, capable, close-knit finance team, manage our audit process end-to-end, and help shape how we plan and report as we scale. It's a broad role by design. You'll move between technical accounting and commercial finance, between month-end close and board-level reporting, between day-to-day oversight and longer-term projects. If you're a qualified accountant who thrives on variety and wants to grow, this is the role for you.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Own the P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow for our UK and US entities.
  • Review and approve journals, payment runs, expenses, purchase orders and overhead/associate invoices.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts with clear, insightful commentary.
  • Produce monthly Group consolidations across P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow.
  • Ensure control account reconciliations are complete, accurate and robust.
  • Support board and operational reporting.

Planning & Forecasting

  • Lead budgeting and forecasting across P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow using Datarails (our FP&A tool).
  • Provide weekly forecast updates and constructively challenge the data.

Audit & Compliance

  • Manage the full audit process including deliverables, team allocation, external coordination and technical queries.
  • Prepare audit papers, going concern reviews, subsequent events and Directors' remuneration certificates.
  • Support the completion of financial statements and notes disclosures.
  • Implement new accounting standards as they come into force.

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead and develop the finance team.
  • Work closely with external partners including our R&D tax advisor, US payroll administrator, pension providers, US tax advisors and UK auditors.

What the role offers

  • Up to £65,000 + EMI share option scheme.
  • Health Insurance and Benefits.
  • Electric car scheme.
  • Vitality Private Healthcare from day one, physical, mental, dental, optical and more for you and your family.
  • Unlimited virtual GP access, 24/7, 365 days a year.
  • Company-funded MetLife Life Insurance.
  • Pension with up to 5% employer match and up to 30% salary offset.
  • HMRC-approved EMI Share Scheme, with up to 13% of company equity on the table.
  • Up to £2,500 referral bonus and a corporate card to cover business expenses.

Lifestyle & Flexibility

  • Flexible hybrid working and 25 days holiday, with the option to buy up to 50% more via salary sacrifice.
  • Save up to 40% on an electric vehicle, 39% on a bike, and 12% on tech.
