Gainsborough House Care Home is seeking an experienced and dedicated maintenance person to join their team. The role involves responding to a variety of requests for repairs and general maintenance of the building and grounds, fixings, fittings and equipment, and providing a general courier service.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the upkeep and maintenance of the site, including all building, mechanical and electrical systems, specialist equipment and its general contents.
  • Ensures the serviceability of all heating, lighting, plumbing and all services and non-medical equipment, including emergency lighting and fire alarms.
  • Conducts regular inspections of the premises and maintains documented records of all preventative maintenance, breakdowns, repairs and alterations.
  • On a weekly basis, undertake the fire alarm test and routine check of wheelchairs, reclining chairs and nursing beds.
  • Develops and implements preventative maintenance programmes in accordance with company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Organises PAT testing of electrical items in accordance with Health and Safety requirements.
  • Reports major faults that are likely to incur significant expenditure or require the services of a specialist contractor.
  • Supervise works carried out by contractors and authorise day sheets prior to payment of invoices.
  • Maintain inventories of all maintenance equipment.
  • Accompanies local fire officer on inspections.
  • Provides an on-call service should emergency works be required.
  • Must be flexible to work in a number of Care Homes to support other maintenance personnel and cover holiday periods.
  • Able to be called upon during out of normal working hours.

These duties are not exhaustive. Job holders may be asked to undertake other responsibilities within their spheres of responsibility and competence.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Skilled / semi-skilled capabilities within the building industry, preferably in the electrical, plumbing or carpentry sections.
  • Hand and power tool operation applicable to trade.
  • DIY skills to support the range of maintenance activities.
  • COSHH / Health and Safety.
