The team at Petersham Nurseries Café are looking for a Kitchen Porter.

Responsibilities:

  • Help to keep the kitchen running smoothly by making sure everything is clean, tidy, safe and hygienic.
  • Responsible for washing up and maintaining the highest levels of cleanliness in all areas of responsibility.
  • Organise the storeroom/s and sanitise the fridges daily.
  • Unpack and check new deliveries against delivery notes and raise any discrepancies with Head/Sous Chef.
  • Collecting and washing pots, pans, plates and cutlery.
  • Washing and disinfecting kitchen appliances, work surfaces, floors and walls.
  • Making sure kitchen equipment is properly stored.
  • Removing and recycling waste from the kitchen.
  • Assisting with ensuring bin areas are kept well organised and clean.
  • Help with basic food preparation before the kitchen or restaurant opens where required.

System and Process:

  • Maintain a productive and hygienic environment, ensuring your work area is clean and in order at all times.
  • Keep your workstation sufficiently stocked throughout the day.
  • Adhere to EHO and Health & Safety standards, as set out in the company Health & Safety policy using COSHH and HACCP precautions where necessary.
  • All work carried out must meet required Health and Safety standards.
  • Assist in daily and monthly stock checks, ensuring all relevant inventories and administrative records are kept up to date when asked.

Personal Qualities:

  • Work in an efficient manner to ensure prompt turnaround time of washing and returning crockery and equipment to the correct department.
  • Ensure that a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness is maintained by following cleaning routines and through ongoing diligence during the shift.
  • Represent Petersham Nurseries' high standards of personal presentation and behaviour at all times.
  • Bring a positive attitude to teamwork, contributing to the smooth running of the shift and interacting productively with other departments.
  • Maintain the standards and culture of the team by setting an example to new members of staff and assisting in their training when required.
