Be the strategic media partner who turns category strategy into evidence-based growth. Responsible Marketing Advisory (RMA) is a culture-first, independent marketing advisory business. RMA’s Advisory Intelligence & Strategic Services team is looking for a Global Category Planning Strategy Director to lead category-level media strategy for their client; embedded within a global category team, turning strategy into implementable regional plans that accelerate brand growth.
What you’ll be doing…
- Lead the global strategy for your category, embedding investment principles into annual category planning.
- Own day-to-day agency governance with the global media agency, setting response timelines, assessing outputs, and holding delivery to global strategy standards.
- Build and evolve category media toolkits that regional teams can execute with minimal rework.
- Map 6–18 month category briefs and establish a consistent planning cadence across creative, social and agency inputs.
- Embed AI-enabled media capabilities, data-driven targeting and measurement frameworks across priority brands.
- Partner with regional teams to capture feedback, refine toolkits, and allow scoped regional flexibility.
- Integrate Retail Media, Social, Creator and Omnichannel approaches to maximise category reach.
- Ensure all category activity complies with the Marketing Code, Trusted Marketplace, Data Privacy and Responsible Marketing standards.
About You…
- Proven extensive experience in media strategy and planning, with real craft and hands-on implementation capability, not just senior oversight.
- Comfortable translating strategy into detailed, deliverable media plans; not someone who stays at 30,000 feet.
- Confident holding your ground with senior stakeholders, even when they'd rather go with gut than evidence.
- A relationship-builder, not a command-and-control operator, who coaches teams into a new model rather than mandating it.
- Strong analytical instincts, comfortable using data to challenge established thinking.
- Experience in a regulated or restricted industry (alcohol, gambling, pharma) or sponsorship-led planning is a bonus, not a pre-requisite.
- Genuinely curious about AI-enabled media, automation and emerging platforms.
How You’ll Succeed…
- Live Responsible Marketing Advisory’s EPIC culture every day.
- Win credibility with category teams through evidence, not authority.
- Keep toolkits sharp and regionally usable, not 'shelfware'.
- Stay hands-on in the media detail while keeping sight of the growth outcome.
- Build an agency relationship with the Global Media Agency that holds a high bar without friction.
- Bring category teams along through coaching and collaboration, not just mandate consistency, and scale successful business outcomes across the region.
We're all about our business and our client's businesses reflecting the world around us, which means we embrace diversity and inclusion and promote equity and belonging. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and experiences. Apply as you are, because we'd love to hear from you.
