Role Overview

  • We are looking for an experienced Software Asset Management (SAM) SME with strong Service Now SAM Pro expertise who can provide both technical and consulting leadership across complex enterprise SAM environments.
  • The ideal candidate should have experience assessing existing SAM landscapes, identifying gaps across technology, data, processes and operating models, and designing solutions that improve software asset visibility, compliance, automation and cost optimisation.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Assess enterprise Software Asset Management landscapes across people, process, technology, data and governance.
  • Evaluate existing Service Now SAM Pro implementations and identify opportunities to improve adoption and value realization.
  • Assess end-to-end SAM processes including software discovery, inventory, normalization, entitlements, reconciliation, compliance and optimisation.
  • Evaluate and improve Effective Licence Position (ELP) and software entitlement management.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual SAM activities using Service Now workflows, automation and AI.
  • Assess integration across SAM, HAM, CMDB, Discovery, procurement/S2P, contracts and financial systems.
  • Identify software cost-optimisation opportunities including unused licences, shelfware, over-licensing, duplicate applications, vendor consolidation and renewal optimisation.
  • Design appropriate SAM target operating models, processes and governance frameworks.
  • Assess technology options and provide recommendations across optimising/configuring existing platforms, augmenting capabilities or developing new capabilities where appropriate.
  • Develop SAM transformation roadmaps, including quick wins and longer-term initiatives.
  • Define relevant KPIs, business outcomes and cost-saving levers for SAM transformation.
  • Translate business challenges into solution approaches, architecture, implementation roadmaps and clearly defined work packages.
  • Engage confidently with senior business, procurement, technology and Service Now stakeholders.
  • Required Skills & Experience
  • 8+ years of experience in Software Asset Management / IT Asset Management within large enterprise environments.
  • Strong expertise in Service Now SAM Pro.
  • Strong understanding of the complete SAM lifecycle: Discovery → Inventory → Normalisation → Entitlements → Reconciliation → Compliance → Optimisation → Renewal.
  • Experience establishing and managing Effective Licence Positions (ELPs).
  • Strong understanding of Service Now Discovery, CMDB and software normalization.
  • Understanding of HAM and SAM/HAM integration.
  • Experience integrating SAM with procurement, contracts, finance and S2P processes.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise software licensing and optimisation across major publishers such as Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, SAP, VMware/Broadcom and Adobe.
  • Demonstrable experience identifying software licence savings and optimisation opportunities.
  • Experience designing SAM operating models, governance structures and transformation roadmaps.
  • Ability to distinguish between platform limitations, configuration gaps, data-quality issues, process deficiencies and operating-model challenges.
  • Strong consulting, problem-solving, workshop and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Preferred Experience
  • Service Now SAM/ITAM certifications, exposure to HAM Pro, ITOM/Discovery and CMDB, experience with platforms such as Flexera or Snow, and experience working with large and complex enterprise software estates would be advantageous.
  • Profile We Are Looking For
  • The key requirement is not a pure Service Now developer.

We need someone who combines deep SAM/SAM Pro knowledge with a consulting mindset—someone who can be presented with an enterprise SAM problem, diagnose the underlying issues, challenge assumptions, recommend an approach and articulate a credible transformation solution.
