Intermediate Electrical Engineer
Purpose of the Job:
This is a developing electrical engineering role based in our Client's London office, responsible for progressing electrical design tasks for data centre and mission-critical facilities in the UK and wider Europe with increasing independence.
The role delivers design work across project stages under the guidance of senior engineers, while building towards independent ownership of design packages.
The successful candidate will:
- Progress electrical design tasks across data centre and mission-critical projects
- Take increasing ownership of design packages with senior engineer oversight
- Coordinate with other disciplines on day-to-day design matters
- Support technical documentation, submissions and site queries
- Continue to build technical depth in data centre electrical systems
Job Accountabilities:
Design Delivery
- Develop electrical calculations, specifications and drawings with increasing independence.
- Support concept, schematic and detailed design deliverables across project stages.
- Check design outputs for compliance with UK and international standards.
- Contribute to resolving design and coordination queries.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate day-to-day with mechanical, public health, structural and architectural disciplines.
- Participate in design coordination meetings and technical reviews.
- Support project leads with progress tracking and documentation.
Technical Development
- Deepen technical knowledge of data centre electrical systems and UK regulatory requirements.
- Support and mentor Associate Engineers on design tasks.
- Progress towards full professional chartership (IET).
Construction Support
- Support construction-stage design queries and technical clarifications.
- Participate in site visits under senior engineer guidance where required.
Technical Knowledge:
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience required across:
- Data Centre and mission-critical electrical systems and design principles.
- Resilience and redundancy philosophies (N+1, 2N).
- LV/MV power distribution, standby generation and UPS system fundamentals.
- Switchgear, protection and cable management basics.
- UK electrical standards (BS 7671), DNO connection processes (G98/G99), and relevant international standards (IEC, EN 50600).
Qualifications & Education
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (accredited university).
Experience
- 3 6 years of relevant consultancy experience.
- Demonstrated involvement in Data Centre / mission-critical electrical design.
- Experience coordinating with other disciplines on live projects.
Knowledge & Skills
- Working towards or holding early-stage professional chartership (IET).
- Good working knowledge of UK codes and client base.
- Sound technical writing and documentation skills.
