Senior Mechanical Engineer in France Purpose of the Job: This role is based in France and is responsible for the delivery of mechanical engineering design packages on data centre and mission-critical projects in France and wider European markets. Working under the direction of the mechanical discipline lead, the role produces and coordinates high-quality cooling and HVAC designs that meet French and EU regulatory requirements, international standards and client expectations from concept through construction support. The successful candidate will: Deliver mechanical design packages on data centre and mission-critical projects Carry out heat load, cooling and HVAC calculations and plant selections Coordinate with other disciplines, clients and contractors Support and guide Junior Engineers Support construction-stage technical queries and site activities Job Accountabilities: Design Delivery Produce mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, schematics and reports. Deliver design across all French project phases (ESQ, APS, APD, PRO, DCE) and support ACT, VISA, DET and AOR stages. Design data centre cooling systems including chilled water, free cooling, adiabatic and liquid cooling solutions. Carry out heat load calculations, plant selection, pipework and ductwork sizing and support CFD studies. Ensure designs comply with French and EU regulations, international standards and client requirements. Project Coordination Coordinate with electrical, fire, controls, structural and architectural disciplines. Participate in design reviews, workshops and client meetings. Manage own deliverables to programme and quality standards. Provide mechanical input to permitting and ICPE submissions (refrigerants, cooling towers, noise). Technical Support (Construction & Delivery Stage) Respond to construction-stage technical queries and review contractor submittals (VISA). Attend site visits and factory witness tests as required. Support commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing (IST) reviews. People Development Mentor and review the work of Junior Engineers. Contribute to technical standards and continuous improvement within the team. Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge and hands-on experience required across: Data Centre and mission-critical facility design. Mechanical resilience and redundancy philosophies (N+1, 2N, Concurrent Maintainability). Data centre cooling, free cooling and energy efficiency (PUE, WUE), including heat recovery. Building Management Systems (BMS) integration. Revit / AutoCAD and BIM coordination. French and EU regulatory framework (ICPE, EU F-Gas Regulation, EN 378, EN 16798, EU Energy Efficiency Directive data centre requirements) and international standards (ASHRAE TC 9.9, Uptime Institute, EN 50600). Qualifications & Education Dipl me d'Ing nieur or Master's degree in Mechanical / HVAC (G nie Climatique) Engineering. Experience 6 10 years of relevant consultancy or design experience. Data Centre / mission-critical project experience strongly preferred. Experience delivering projects in France across all design phases. Knowledge & Skills Fluent French and good working English (written and spoken). Sound knowledge of French and EU mechanical regulations and standards. Strong technical, coordination and communication skills. Ability to manage own workload and guide junior team members
