Job Purpose: The role will involve liaising with internal and external clients to ensure accurate communication of information and legal compliance.
The Role:
- Create, issue and control internal and external specifications in the format required or requested.
- Review, updating and maintenance of customer specifications in line with business and customer requirements.
- Accurate and timely completion of internal and external customer specifications and or pack copy for launches.
- Ensure that all specifications and pack copies are accurate and comply with all relevant legislation and amend as necessary.
- Upload all customer specifications onto the relevant databases.
- Creating pack copies (ingredient declarations and nutritional) for artwork generation of all our own brands as well as external customers in the internal/specified format, for new products or product upgrades.
- Legal /Best Practise/ monitoring and communications.
- TACCP/VACCP Risk Assessment and documentation maintenance.
- Assist with internal audits based on BRCGS food safety standards.
- Manage all artworks through the artwork process and be responsible for checking comments and providing the final technical and legal checks.
- Reviewing artwork submitted against the relevant pack copy using the label / packaging sign off procedure making amends and requesting the changes where necessary.
- Manage sign off of final artwork and ensure timely release to printers.
- Ensure all artwork and approved pack copies are filed with the relevant Customer specifications to ensure product change traceability.
- Signing off all new artwork against the signed off pack copy.
- Check existing packaging and identifying anything which requires updating in addition to FIR conversion.
- Assist in training the technical team to increase their legal labelling and FIR knowledge.
- Check & approve relevant Raw Material specifications for legality and accuracy thereby ensuring correct specs enter the business & ensuring raw material specifications cover the ever changing customer & business technical requirements.
- Highlighting any errors/ amend Raw material specifications coming into the business and make sure they are up to date with any relevant changes. Make sure all raw material specifications are in the correct business format.
- Conducting supplier visits.
- Maintaining Supplier/raw material risk assessment – Creating and maintenance of raw material testing plan to meet customer requirements and risk assessment requirements.
The Person:
- Proven knowledge and experience of legal labelling, nutritional analysis, FIR, specifications and pack copy, artwork processes and on-line proofing.
- Project management experience.
- Attention to detail - checking pack copy and artworks, spotting errors and inconsistencies.
- A degree held in Food Science / Technology or Food Nutrition will be advantageous.
- Be the key point of contact for technologists and suppliers.
- Review and maintenance of raw material specifications.
- Challenging suppliers, ensuring requests for information / Food safety questions are resolved / answered promptly within the critical path timescales.
- Constant drive, enthusiasm and self-motivation with ability to motivate others.
- Committed, disciplined and well organised.

- Able to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the business.
