The Quality Systems Manager has responsibility and accountability for management of Technical processes within the factory ensuring the sites Quality Management System is fully compliant, whilst ensuring strict compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety Policies and Quality / Food Safety processes.
Responsibilities:
- Promote a strong Food Safety and Quality Culture, ensuring products are manufactured to the correct safety, legality and quality standards at all times.
- Support the Site Technical Manager in maintaining compliance with BRCGS, customer Codes of Practice, legal requirements and internal standards.
- Maintain and continuously improve site Quality Management System (QMS) processes, ensuring systems remain effective, practical and aligned to operational requirements.
- Coordinate and support site internal audit activities, ensuring findings, non-conformances and corrective actions are effectively managed and closed out.
- Maintain oversight of technical compliance trackers and site improvement plans, including fabrication and infrastructure actions managed through systems.
- Support investigation of technical non-conformances, complaints, incidents and audit findings, ensuring robust root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented.
- Trend and communicate technical KPI data to identify recurring issues, emerging risks and improvement opportunities.
- Manage and maintain the site document control system, ensuring all technical, quality and operational documents are accurately controlled.
- Management and verification of site compliance programmes including traceability, environmental monitoring, calibration, raw material verification and product testing schedules.
- Develop, review and maintain Technical SOPs, procedures and work instructions, ensuring documents remain current, controlled and operationally effective.
- Work closely with Operations, Engineering and other departments to ensure technical requirements are understood, implemented and sustained.
- Support the Technical Support Officer in delivery of day-to-day technical systems administration and compliance activities.
- Support site readiness through routine systems verification, GMP assessments, compliance reviews and operational engagement, including conducting factory verification activities to ensure standards relating to GMP, hygiene, process control and food safety systems are maintained, while monitoring and verifying completion of technical compliance actions and escalating overdue, ineffective or repeat issues where appropriate.
- Be an active member of the site HACCP team and support ongoing HACCP verification activities.
- Deputise for the Site Technical Manager where required within agreed areas of responsibility.
- Promote and maintain high standards of Environmental, Health & Safety compliance and safe working practices across all activities.
- Carry out any other duties reasonably aligned to the needs and level of responsibility of the role.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Food related degree or equivalent required desirable.
- Level 3 Food Safety.
- Level 3 HACCP.
- 3+ years experience in a technical role within the food manufacturing industry.
- In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations, quality management systems, and industry standards (e.g. GMP, BRCGS, Major Retailer Requirements).
- Proven abilities, with a track record of delivering within a food manufacturing environment.
Desirable:
- HACCP Level 4.
- IOSH General Certificate in Health & Safety.
- Advanced Food Hygiene (Level 4).
- Lead Auditor Qualification or equivalent.
- Recognised Thermal Processing Training.
- Third party auditing qualification.
