Senior AI Automation Engineer | £100,000-£120,000 London or Birmingham | Hybrid - 3 days per week in the office We're looking for a Senior AI Automation Engineer to join a growing specialist AI engineering capability within a major UK company. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing and delivering production-grade AI applications, intelligent agents and automated workflows within a large, governed enterprise environment. You'll work across Microsoft Copilot, Python, Power Platform and Azure, combining modern software engineering with AI and workflow automation to build solutions that move beyond proof-of-concept and into real-world production use. The role You'll sit at the intersection of AI engineering, software development and intelligent automation, taking ownership of the technical design and delivery of AI-powered solutions used across the business. Your work will include: Designing and building AI agents and multi-step automated workflows Developing production-grade Python services, APIs and automation pipelines Building solutions using Microsoft Copilot Studio and Power Platform Orchestrating workflows across Copilot Studio, Azure AI / Azure AI Foundry and internal enterprise systems Integrating AI applications with existing platforms through REST/GraphQL APIs and event-driven architectures Developing reusable connectors, tools, services and agent capabilities Designing agent orchestration, tool-use and integration patterns Building CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks Deploying and monitoring AI applications in production Ensuring solutions are scalable, observable, secure and maintainable Leading technical design discussions and code reviews Helping establish engineering standards and supporting the development of more junior engineers What we're looking for We're looking for an experienced engineer who combines strong software engineering fundamentals with practical experience delivering AI and automation solutions. Strong commercial Python engineering experience, including APIs, testing, modular architecture and asynchronous processing Strong experience with Microsoft Copilot / Copilot Studio Strong experience with Microsoft Power Platform and workflow automation Experience building and deploying production AI/LLM applications, agents or AI-powered workflows Experience with Azure OpenAI, Azure AI / AI Foundry or comparable AI platforms Understanding of agentic AI patterns, orchestration, tool use, prompt design and LLM limitations Strong API and systems integration experience, including REST and/or GraphQL Experience designing reusable services, connectors and integration components Microsoft Azure experience across services such as Functions, containers and AI services Strong CI/CD, Git and automated testing experience Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or Azure Container Apps An understanding of production monitoring, reliability and observability Experience with MCP or similar integration patterns, AI governance, prompt evaluation/versioning, event-driven systems or highly regulated environments would be particularly valuable.
