Quantity Surveyor Estimator

We are working with an established main contractor based in Hampshire who are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join their growing commercial team. The business delivers a varied portfolio of construction projects across the South, with this position predominantly focused on high-end residential work including major refurbishments, conversions and bespoke new-build projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor who enjoys being involved throughout the full lifecycle of a project. The primary focus will be Quantity Surveying and commercial management, while also supporting the estimating and pre-construction function when the live project workload allows. Previous experience working within a main contracting environment is essential. Quantity Surveyor / Estimator – The Role Working as part of an established team, you will take commercial responsibility for projects from pre-construction through to completion and final account. You will work closely with Contracts Managers, Site Managers, clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure projects are commercially controlled and successfully delivered. Alongside your Quantity Surveying responsibilities, you will support the estimating team with new tenders, pricing and pre-construction activities, giving you exposure to projects from their earliest stages through to delivery. Quantity Surveyor / Estimator – Key Responsibilities Commercial management of high-end residential refurbishment, conversion and new-build projects Preparing and managing project budgets, cost plans and forecasts Procurement of subcontractor and supplier packages Preparing tender enquiries and analysing subcontractor quotations Managing subcontractor accounts, valuations and payments Preparing and submitting client valuations Managing variations and change control Monitoring project costs, margins and commercial performance Preparing CVRs and providing accurate financial reporting Negotiating and agreeing final accounts Working closely with operational teams throughout project delivery Supporting the estimating function during quieter periods of the QS workload Reviewing tender documentation, drawings and specifications Completing take-offs and assisting with tender pricing Obtaining and analysing supplier and subcontractor quotations Assisting with tender submissions and pre-construction handovers Quantity Surveyor / Estimator – About You We are looking for someone with previous Quantity Surveying experience gained within a main contractor. You do not necessarily need to be an Estimator by background, but you should be commercially confident and comfortable supporting the estimating process when required. Experience within high-end residential construction would be particularly advantageous, especially involving bespoke new builds, substantial refurbishments or conversions. You should have: Previous Quantity Surveying experience with a main contractor A good understanding of the full commercial lifecycle of a construction project Experience with subcontractor procurement and commercial management Strong cost management and reporting skills An understanding of construction estimating and tendering The ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender information Strong negotiation and communication skills A commercially focused and organised approach The ability to manage your own workload while working closely with the wider project team Quantity Surveyor / Estimator – The Company Our client is an established Hampshire-based main contractor delivering construction projects across the South of England.
