We are recruiting on behalf of a Local Authority in Norfolk for an experienced Registered Building Inspector to join their Building Control team on an initial 6-12 month contract. The role will involve carrying out building control inspections and ensuring that building work complies with the Building Regulations and relevant legislation. You will be working across a varied range of projects and dealing with developers, contractors, architects and other professionals on a day-to-day basis.
The main responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out site inspections at various stages of construction
- Assessing building work for compliance with the Building Regulations and relevant legislation
- Reviewing plans, specifications and technical information
- Identifying non-compliance and providing advice where required
- Liaising with developers, contractors, architects, engineers and other stakeholders
- Providing technical advice on Building Control matters
- Maintaining accurate inspection records and completing reports
- Managing your own workload and prioritising inspections
- Ensuring inspections and decisions are carried out in line with legislation and professional standards
- Keeping up to date with changes to Building Regulations and industry guidance
The successful candidate will have:
- Class 2A + RBI registration
- Previous experience working in Building Control, ideally within a Local Authority
- Good knowledge of the Building Regulations and associated legislation
- Experience carrying out building inspections across a range of projects
- Good knowledge of construction methods, materials and practices
- The ability to read and interpret drawings, plans and technical information
- Good communication skills and the ability to deal confidently with a range of stakeholders
- The ability to work independently and manage a caseload
- Strong attention to detail and sound technical judgement
