We are seeking a highly skilled Linux Infrastructure Engineer to support a leading specialist consultancy. You will manage, maintain, and scale secure, resilient Linux environments across physical, virtual, and cloud platforms. Acting as a subject matter expert, you will drive automation and performance tuning to support business-critical services.
This permanent, on-site role requires a green badge (eDV) Security Clearance to work high side.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and support secure, resilient Linux-based infrastructure environments (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS).
- Manage, maintain, and optimise Linux servers across physical, virtual, and cloud platforms.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Terraform.
- Perform system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning to ensure high availability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure and OS-level issues, conducting thorough root cause analysis.
- Manage system patching, security updates, backups, and disaster recovery processes.
- Implement security best practices, including system hardening, access control, and vulnerability management.
- Support deployment processes, migrations, and new software releases whilst maintaining meticulous documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide 2nd and 3rd line support for infrastructure-related incidents.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in Linux system administration covering platforms like RHEL, Ubuntu, or CentOS.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash or Python for automation tasks.
- Hands-on experience with configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls).
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM, Nagios, Prometheus, Splunk).
- Familiarity with containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills under pressure.
Strict Requirements: Candidates must hold an active eDV clearance (Green Badge) and be fully prepared to work high side. The role also requires being on-site 4 to 5 days per week.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of identity management systems (LDAP, DNS) and security frameworks.
- Experience working within secure or highly regulated environments.
- Professional certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE, or CompTIA Linux+.
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
