This is a hands-on engineering leadership role supporting the delivery of mechanical, marine and defence-related projects within HM Naval Base Portsmouth, dockyard environments and onboard Royal Navy vessels. Experience can be from Defence, Marine, Shipbuilding, but also general Heavy Engineering could have transferrable skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing multiple engineering and maintenance contracts.
  • Project delivery from tender through to completion.
  • Cost control, forecasting and commercial management.
  • Client and stakeholder management.
  • Procurement and subcontractor coordination.
  • Technical review of engineering documentation.
  • RAMS preparation and HSEQ compliance.
  • Managing project programmes, resources and delivery schedules.

Candidate Profile

  • A strong mechanical engineering background.
  • Previous experience in Contracts Manager, Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer roles.
  • It would be useful to have experience within either defence, marine, shipbuilding, ship repair OR heavy engineering sectors.
  • Commercial and contractual awareness.
  • NEC contract experience.
  • Strong customer-facing and leadership skills.
  • HNC/HND/Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.

Location

Based from Portsmouth, with regular work undertaken in HM Naval Base Portsmouth, dockyard facilities and onboard naval vessels.

Security Clearance

Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain SC Security Clearance, as the role supports defence projects and provides access to secure dockyard and shipboard environments.
