Position: Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM) Programmer, Setter, Operator

Salary: Competitive salary, dependent on experience, plus benefits

Hours: Monday Thursday, 06:30am 15:15pm, Friday 06:00am 13:00pm

Location: Commutable from Camberley, Bracknell, Farnborough, Farnham, Guildford, Aldershot and surrounding areas

Main Purpose:

Program, set and operate Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM), Makino wire machines in line with engineering drawings and specifications, ensuring high-quality, accurate components are produced safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program, set and operate wire erosion in line with engineering drawings and specifications
  • Interpret engineering drawings (metric and imperial) and work to tight tolerances
  • Download, prove out and optimise CNC/EDM programs
  • Set up tooling, fixtures and workpieces correctly
  • Inspect components (first-off and in-process) to ensure quality standards
  • Adjust machine parameters and offsets to maintain accuracy
  • Carry out routine machine maintenance and ensure consumables are stocked
  • Support tooling, prototype and development work
  • Maintain production records and follow quality and safety procedures

Skills Qualifications/Experience:

  • Time-served engineer or equivalent experience within a precision engineering environment
  • Proven experience in wire erosion and/or spark erosion, including programming and operating EDM Makino machinery
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, geometric tolerances, and working to tight tolerances on precision components
  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, materials, and inspection methods
  • Familiar with NADCAP requirements
  • Good awareness of quality standards and health safety regulations within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality, right-first-time work
  • Methodical and disciplined approach, with the ability to follow processes while also thinking practically
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding ability, with a hands-on engineering mindset
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and manage workload effectively
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across production, quality, and engineering teams
  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
