About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to join a specialist technology team delivering highly secure solutions within the national security environment.
You'll work alongside experienced software, infrastructure and security professionals, helping to create and maintain the platforms that support complex, business-critical systems.
The role will suit someone who enjoys solving challenging infrastructure problems, automating repetitive processes and working with modern cloud and container technologies.
You'll have the opportunity to influence how systems are built, deployed and operated, while working within a collaborative Agile delivery model.
Your Day-to-Day
Your responsibilities will include
- Designing, implementing and maintaining reliable development and infrastructure environments.
- Translating technical and business requirements into practical platform solutions.
- Increasing the level of automation across development, testing and deployment activities.
- Building robust CI/CD processes to support frequent and dependable software releases.
- Helping to identify and resolve complex technical and infrastructure issues.
- Supporting the security, resilience and availability of critical systems.
- Working closely with developers, engineers, customers and other stakeholders throughout the delivery lifecycle.
- Promoting consistent engineering practices across development and operational environments.
- Continuously reviewing existing platforms and processes to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Your Technical Background
You should have a solid background in Platform Engineering, Dev Ops or a closely related discipline, together with experience of several of the following:
- Working within Agile or Dev Ops teams, ideally using SCRUM.
- Public cloud environments, particularly
AWS and/or Azure .
- Infrastructure as Code, such as
Terraform, Ansible, Puppet or Chef .
- Designing and supporting automated software delivery pipelines.
- CI/CD tooling, including technologies such as
Jenkins or Concourse , or comparable cloud-based platforms.
- Containers and orchestration, with experience of technologies such as
Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, ECS or AKS .
- Automation and scripting.
- Git or other source-control technologies.
- Supporting the deployment and operation of complex or large-scale applications.
Experience of working on secure or highly regulated technology projects would be beneficial, although the key requirement is a strong engineering mindset and the ability to work effectively in a security-focused environment.
