Due to continued growth, our client, a specialist municipal fleet engineering business is hiring a Mechanical Fitter / Vehicle Fitter to support vehicle refurbishment, planned maintenance and reactive repairs across specialist vehicles and associated body equipment. You will work as part of a skilled engineering team to strip, inspect, repair and rebuild mechanical systems to a high standard with quality, reliability and safety at the core.
Key responsibilities:- Mechanical fitting/repair on heavy vehicles and body equipment in a workshop environment
- Strip and rebuild mechanical assemblies; replace worn/damaged components
- Work on hydraulic and pneumatic systems (hoses, pipework, valves, cylinders, leak rectification)
- Diagnose mechanical faults, carry out repairs, and verify fixes through testing/functional checks
- Read and interpret engineering/manufacturing drawings and follow job packs accurately
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping/5S and comply with all H&S procedures
- Strong mechanical background (vehicle/HGV/plant/agri/heavy engineering ideal)
- Confident with hydraulics and pneumatics and general mechanical diagnostics
- Able to work from engineering drawings/job packs
- Strong tool skills, good attention to detail, and pride in workmanship
- NVQ Level 3 / C&G or equivalent mechanical qualification
- Fabrication exposure (helpful)
- Driving licence (HGV licence advantageous but not essential)
