Job Description

We are delighted to announce a new job opening for an Estimator to join a leading RC frame and groundworks contractor based in Dorset.
Our client is a leading specialist contractor, renowned for delivering high-quality groundworks and reinforced concrete (RC) frame solutions across a wide range of projects. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Estimator to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on exciting and complex projects within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tender Preparation: Accurately prepare cost estimates for groundworks and RC frame packages, ensuring all elements are thoroughly quantified and considered.
  • Site Visits: Conduct site visits to gain an in-depth understanding of the project scope, working with the project team to develop a comprehensive cost plan.

  • Take-Offs and Measurements: Carry out take-offs and detailed measurements from drawings, ensuring that all aspects of the project are accurately priced.

  • Cost Analysis: Analyse subcontractor and supplier quotes, assess value engineering opportunities, and ensure the cost plan remains competitive.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with the project managers, operations teams, and clients to deliver cost-effective solutions while maintaining high-quality standards.

  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks to cost and project delivery, offering strategies for mitigation.

  • Reporting: Provide regular updates to senior management on the progress of tenders and assist in decision-making with accurate data.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with industry trends, materials, and methods, suggesting improvements to the estimating process.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an Estimator within the groundworks and RC frame sector (minimum 2 years).

  • Strong understanding of groundworks, reinforced concrete frames, and civil engineering practices.

  • Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

  • Excellent attention to detail with a methodical approach to cost estimation.

  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to work under pressure.

  • A good understanding of contract types and procurement methods.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Relevant qualifications in construction or civil engineering (e.g., HNC/HND or degree level preferred).
