About the Role
Great British Energy is looking for a Senior Risk Manager - Transaction to join our GBE Local Directorate Team. This role will play a key part in contributing to projects, objectives, and wider organisational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead risk assessments for renewable energy transactions, including investment and debt structures, hedging instruments and other financial instruments
- Prepare transaction ratings, PD, ECL, EL, RAR for transactions. Involved in stress testing scenarios for transactions. Maintain the policies and procedures relating to risk assessment. Input into Investment Papers risk opinions
- Develop, implement and maintain risk frameworks for investment, project finance, M&A, and structured deals
- Provide independent risk opinions on proposed transactions to senior stakeholders and Investment Committees. Provide 4-eye principles to annual reviews of investments
- Monitor market, credit, and operational risks across the renewable energy portfolio
- Collaborate with deal teams, legal, ESG and finance to structure transactions that align with risk appetite. Assess scope of works relating to Due Diligence
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory, market, and ESG considerations impacting renewable energy investments
- Prepare and present risk reports to senior management and governance committees
- Working closely with the Head of Risk to execute various risk initiatives
- Promote and assist in risk awareness throughout the organisation
- Assist Head of Risk in monitoring and reporting of Risks (including Risk Register)
- Manage and develop team of Risk Analysts
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience in risk management within energy, infrastructure, or financial services
- Strong understanding of renewable energy markets, investment and project finance structures
- Expertise in credit risk, market risk, and counterparty risk analysis
- Familiarity with investment appraisal, financial modelling, and due diligence processes
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Collaborative approach
Desirable:
- Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field; professional qualifications (FRM, CFA)
- Analytical and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to risk mitigation
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence decision-making
