An established and growing construction and property services contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team based in Portsmouth. With a strong reputation across the South of England, our client delivers a diverse portfolio of construction, refurbishment, planned maintenance and facilities projects for public and private sector clients. Operating across education, healthcare, local authority, defence, commercial and residential sectors, they continue to secure long-term frameworks and repeat business through the quality of their delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to take ownership of projects while playing a key role within a supportive and forward-thinking business.

The Role

Reporting into the Commercial Manager, the Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial management of multiple construction and refurbishment projects from pre-construction through to final account. The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will work closely with operational teams, clients, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure projects are delivered profitably whilst maintaining strong commercial controls throughout.

Key Responsibilities
  • Full commercial management of projects from inception to completion
  • Procurement and management of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Preparation and negotiation of subcontract agreements
  • Cost reporting, forecasting and financial management
  • Preparation of monthly CVRs and cashflow forecasts
  • Management of variations, valuations and final accounts
  • Contract administration under JCT and NEC forms of contract
  • Managing risk and protecting the commercial interests of the business
  • Attending client and project meetings
  • Supporting project delivery teams with commercial advice
  • Building and maintaining strong client and supply chain relationships
  • Assisting with the development and mentoring of junior commercial staff
Requirements
  • Degree or HNC qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • Proven experience operating at Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor level
  • Strong commercial and contractual knowledge
  • Experience managing construction, refurbishment, maintenance or public sector projects
  • Working knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts
  • Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
