Due to continued growth, we are now seeking an enthusiastic and driven Assistant Estimator to join their commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to develop their career in estimating within a reputable and expanding civil engineering contractor.
Assistant Estimator Criteria:
- Minimum 2 years experience in an estimating or quantity surveying role within groundworks, RC frame, or civil engineering.
- A good understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and measurement principles.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and basic familiarity with estimating software.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Good communication and organisation skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a wider pre-construction team.
- A positive attitude and eagerness to learn from senior estimators and progress within the business.
Assistant Estimator Duties:
- Assist senior estimators in reviewing and analysing tender documentation to understand scope and requirements.
- Support in the take-off and measurement of quantities from drawings and specifications.
- Help in preparing cost estimates and bills of quantities under the guidance of senior team members.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations and clarify scope of works.
- Assist in the evaluation and comparison of supplier/subcontractor quotations.
- Maintain accurate records of tender documents, correspondence, and cost data.
- Contribute to the identification of risks and value engineering opportunities.
- Help prepare tender submission documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with client requirements.
- Attend internal tender review meetings and provide administrative and analytical support.
- Participate in post-tender reviews to capture lessons learned and improve future submissions.
