I'm delighted to be partnering exclusively with Blake Group on a retained search for a Commercial Director. A genuinely exciting, Board-level appointment for a business entering a real growth phase. Blake Group is a well-established Edinburgh engineering, fabrication and manufacturing business with a strong reputation for quality and delivery. They now need a commercially sharp leader to sit on the senior leadership team and shape the commercial agenda as they scale. This isn't a caretaker role. You'll own P&L performance and cash flow strategy, build the commercial and procurement frameworks the business needs for its next phase, and stand up a proper business development function. Reporting directly to the MD, you'll be central to how this business grows, not just managing the numbers, but actively driving the strategy that gets them there.
What you'll be doing:
- Owning P&L, cash flow and working capital performance, working closely with Finance
- Defining commercial strategy and contract governance across NEC3, NEC4, FIDIC, lump sum and T&M
- Leading supplier and subcontractor negotiation, and building procurement governance
- Building a structured BD function pipeline, account plans, CRM discipline and identifying revenue streams
- Establishing a high-performance commercial culture across the business
What we're looking for:
- Proven senior commercial leadership (Commercial Director level or equivalent) in engineering, fabrication, construction or manufacturing
- Strong grip on NEC3/NEC4/FIDIC contract structures
- A track record of improving cash flow, margin and commercial performance in an SME or growth business
- A credible business developer who's won and retained strategic accounts
- Someone equally comfortable at Board level and on the shop floor - entrepreneurial, structured, hands-on.
