Our client, an established financial services company, is looking for a capable Senior Java Developer to strengthen their engineering function. You'll take a hands-on role in shaping the future of their post-trade platform, spanning proprietary systems, APIs, client-facing reporting and a web portal, alongside tailoring an existing third-party trading system.
What's in it for you:
- Salary up to £70,000
- Performance bonus
- Remote working
- Private healthcare
- Company pension
- Life assurance
The Role:
Partnering closely with Client Services and Product Management, you'll turn intricate business needs into robust, scalable software. It's a genuine step up for someone looking to sharpen their capital markets know-how while stepping into leadership and mentoring, with hands-on access to cloud-native tools, cutting-edge Java work and AI.
On the development side, you'll build and support in-house systems, APIs, reporting tools and the client portal; bring AI into the development lifecycle; adapt third-party trading systems as the business requires; and write clean, thoroughly tested code grounded in SOLID principles, Design Patterns and Clean Code. You'll also work with microservices and event-driven architectures, cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform. Testing coverage will rely on JUnit, Spock and Mockito, applying TDD and BDD along the way, and you'll take part in code reviews that help raise the bar across the team.
On the people and communication side, you'll work with Client Services and Product Management to shape solutions from business requirements, explain technical concepts clearly to audiences ranging from developers to senior non-technical stakeholders, and cut through complex problems to find root causes and prioritise fixes.
You'll guide and coach a team of developers, championing quality, ownership and continuous improvement, and collaborating smoothly with offshore colleagues across time zones.
Must Haves:
- Java development experience within financial services
- Solid grounding in Java 11+, Spring Boot, multi-threading, profiling, performance tuning and RMI
- Hands-on experience with microservices and event-driven architectures
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and Terraform
- A track record with TDD, Agile and automated build/deployment practices
- Practical experience with JUnit/Spock and mocking frameworks like Mockito
- A genuine grasp of SOLID, Design Patterns, Clean Code and TDD; confident use of CI/CD
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
If you're a senior Java engineer with capital markets experience looking to combine deep technical work with real leadership impact, in a business investing heavily in cloud, AI and developer experience, this role's worth a look.
