We are recruiting for an experienced HGV Workshop Manager to take ownership of a sizeable mixed fleet including specialist tankers, alongside a fleet of HGVs and vans. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will have direct line management of an HGV fitter and be responsible for all aspects of fleet maintenance, compliance, and workshop management.

If you are a qualified HGV technician with tanker maintenance experience and the confidence to lead a small team in a busy, compliance-driven environment, this could be the ideal next step in your career.

About the role:

  • Manage and carry out the maintenance and repair of a mixed fleet of specialist vehicles including tankers, HGVs and company vans.
  • Plan and execute all servicing, MOT preparation, inspections, and defect rectification to ensure full DVSA compliance.
  • Lead reactive repairs to minimise vehicle downtime and maintain operation availability.
  • Oversee and manage one HGV Fitter, ensuring consistent standards and workshop performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, part usage, and compliance documentation.
  • Liaise daily with the Transport Manager and Operations Manager to prioritise workload based on operational need.
  • Manage parts ordering, stock control, tooling, and workshop housekeeping.
  • Coordinate a rotating shift pattern to ensure full availability during hours of operation.
  • Respond to vehicle breakdowns as required.
  • Assist with LOLER and PAT inspections when required.
  • Ensure full compliance with transport legislation, company policies, and SHEQ requirements.

About You:

  • A recognised qualification in HGV maintenance (NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds, or equivalent) or demonstrable time-served experience in a similar role.
  • IRTEC accreditation, this is a firm requirement to lead tanker maintenance confidently.
  • Proven experience working on tanker vehicles, with jetting, vacuum, or similar specialist equipment.
  • Class 1 (C+E) HGV License with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar HGV Technician or Workshop Manager role.
  • Strong diagnostic and mechanical skills.
  • Excellent understanding of compliance requirements and record-keeping.
  • Ability to prioritise workload effectively in a fast-paced operational setting.
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative approach.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Must be willing to undergo DBS and drug/alcohol screening before commencement of role.

What's Great About This Role:

  • £50,000 base salary with overtime paid at time and a half.
  • Great opportunity for an experienced Technician to step up into a managerial role.
  • Company van provided for breakdown callouts, no need to use your own vehicle.
  • Rotating shift structure offering variety and work-life balance.
  • A stable, established employer with a strong operational team around you.
  • Training and career development opportunities.
